Who is your backup team

Tbh... college football gets less enjoyable every year. NIL is ruining it... if I want to watch pro football, I'll watch my Packers. And attending college football games, especially at Jack Trice, is becoming less and less enjoyable as well. JP has not helped that fact at all btw. And constantly being bombarded by everything ISU athletics for more and more money is nauseating honestly. Donate to the AD, donate to We Will, pay more for tickets, pay more for concessions, etc, etc, etc. Just getting tired of it all honestly.

If I had to pick another favorite college team to watch right now... obviously Colorado comes to mind. Hate him or love him, Prime is exciting, AND he brings a VERY exciting brand of football as well. ISU football is beyond boring to watch right now.

Thinking back to that ISU Oklahoma game in Norman several years ago when Kempt started... what happened to that brand of football?? Tossing the ball all over the field... short, medium, and deep... and sideline to sideline. We had the OU defense running all over the field to defend us. It was beautiful. Going into that game, everyone thought we were going to get our doors blown off... so maybe Matt just decided to throw the kitchen sink at OU and just see what happened? What did we have to lose? Maybe we need to go into every game with that kind of thinking?

No backup team. I’ll probably get flamed for this, but I enjoy following the Big 10. I live in an area that has Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, etc alum. I live vicariously through their regional trash talk.

tOSU, it’s right down the street.
I’ve been to many games at The Shoe.

A memorable one was Texas in 2005.

George Bush was there, secret service everywhere, my buddy and I come walking up to the gate about 30 minutes after kickoff.
I’m holding two full plastic cups of straight Bourbon.

The older ticket guy said “why are you guys so late?”

I said “I just got done watching Iowa State beat Iowa!” And showed him my Iowa State Tshirt.

He said, “that’s awesome! What’s in the cups?”

I said “Iced Tea”

He exclaimed, “then come on in, you’re late!”

Oh the good ole days. I’m not even sure we showed our tickets!

For college basketball if ISU misses the dance or gets bounced early cheering against Big Ten has been the most dominant team I’ve ever pulled for other than maybe Jordan Bulls. It’s been like two solid decades now where you just pull against big ten and you almost always win, the better the big ten seed the more guaranteed they lose.

My real alternate lately has been Monte, Hali and Georges in the pros. Likewise Purdy, Breece and Lazard. Great to add DM now that he’s off the Bears offense that is always unwatchable.

Notre Dame- that Catholic thing. Big fan since the Sunday morning highlight show back in 1970's.

Also like the Badgers. Love their aggressive defensive style over the years.

The Colorado game last night was dramatic as f.

Yeah I just basically don’t watch CFB if Iowa State is bad.

I’m like this in college basketball.

1. ISU
2. ISU players in nba
3. General nba playoffs
4. March madness but only first couple days hoping for upsets, switch it off if only blue bloods emerge
99999. Regular season college basketball not directly involving ISU

Tail end of McD years I basically didn’t watch college basketball anymore.

OU's defense was terrible and ISU had probably their best collection of receivers ever in Lazard, Ryen, Butler, Murdoch and Montgomery taking some passes out of the backfield, along with a new defense and QB that OU had not seen.

That game also started slow. Two weeks later ISU beat TCU 14-7 with 250 yards of offense.

Amazing days in ISU lore though and ISU's desperation to make a play like then has been missing.

Outside of the team that is playing EIU that week, really none, I just like to watch football, so if a game is on, I generally tune in, college or NFL doesn't matter.

The last couple of years my wife has been saying she would like to drive out to S. Carolina to visit our son and his family in the fall and see the leaves on the trees. After looking at the maps of the tree leaves turning, we figured out that late October early November for that region of the country would be best, so we decided on the first weekend in November. ISU plays Kansas that day, and I figure I would just miss the game. I told my son that maybe we could go watch S. Carolina that day instead, after looking it up, he said they were not at home. So, I figured I would just watch ISU on TV at their place. A few days later he called and said, that Clemson was at home that weekend, and we could go see them play ND. We ended up getting 2 tickets, lower deck around the 10-yard line for the game through vivid seats. Not cheap, but I am sure it's going to be a blast.

We talked after the vehicle purchase and he mentioned that a couple they are friends with had tickets for Clemson and FSU for next weekend, but the wife has been going through chemo treatments, and did not to expose herself so my son is going instead. I mentioned you have never been to a Clemson game and now you are going to two this year when they play FSU and ND, cannot get much better than that.

I've lost interest in college football over the years compared to how intently I used to follow the Cyclones. If I had to pick a backup it would probably be the local Gophers.

I didn't watch much ISU basketball at all during the McD years. I don't think they were on regular ESPN/2 that much and were on ESPN+ or similar which I didn't have.

I also just kind of lost interest as I had moved out of state. When I did tune in it was pretty bland. I also really didn't follow college basketball much during those. If ISU is decent it peaks my interest overall to compare and contrast what ISU could do.

Oddly I still watched quite a bit of ISU football and college football even though they were pretty bad.

We still watch college football, though we've noticed the whole culture changing. It reminds me of the transition we saw with NASCAR.

IMO college football has become more of a business. If student athletes want to make money, great....but once they make over a certain amount I feel they should forfeit college scholarships. And they better damn well do one heckuva job because now that's what they're getting paid to do!

I've switched to watching more NFL games and attending 1 or 2 of those games instead.

Ohio's defense yesterday can't be much better than Oklahoma's, right? I know OU's was bad, but we're talking a MAC defense here.

Your argument has some validity, but does nothing to persuade me that we shouldn't be opening it up like we did in that OU game.

Ohio's defense yesterday compared to 2017 OU was more disciplined and it's not really close. With the exception of a few games that season was standard 'outscore everyone' OU era.

Do you think ISU currently has 3-4 receivers and a RB that can make a swing pass into a 60 yard gain? That's why they they did what the did and won't be doing the same any time soon.

Minnesota and all MN pro sports. I don’t know what “championship” means…
