Funny how things change and how everyone has got to blame someone. Maybe Cael wanted a new challenge and got more money doing it. Good for him. JP got the hottest wrestling coach in the nation for at least 3 years, yet you blame him. How many of you complainers actually went to a match this year or even over the last 10 years...yah, that is what I thought.

Sometimes things change...its life.

This poll is kinda pointless until we know a couple things...

1. Pay
2. Relationship between the 2
3. Fallout
4. Cael's true feelings about Penn State's job. (if he feels it will be easier, who can blame him)

Hell blame Canada...

This will never happen, and it makes me mad... but, I wish CS would say the whole truth behind recent events. I want to know if he quit because of JP and what are the specifics behind it. Or he should say that JP did everything possible to keep him, and he has no problems with JP. I want to know if I should support JP or not. CS owes this to ISU fans.

I'm not that guy always screaming for Pollard's head, but this time I believe he is the one responsible and deserves to be fired. Yeah, he hired Cael on 3 years ago and made a good hire, but what good is a hire if you can't keep the coach (look at the Chizik situation, I don't think he would've done anything else for the program but who knows if he could've been kept another year or two. and don't get me wrong, I'm totally on the Rhoads band-wagon). JP has consistently shown that he is an inconsistent and incompetant AD in all things other than $$$. If he wasn't able to get the funds he has, I seriously think he would've been gone years ago. This time $$$ shouldn't matter, get someone that can actually bring our athletic programs to the level to deserve the facilities we're building.

Have heard that JP and CS had some sort of heated argument and Cael pretty much told him that he was done. Also heard that Cael didn't even bring up money. Like I stated that is just what I heard from some people in the athletic dept. Take it for what it's worth.

I don't even know what we had to offer in terms of what it would have taken to keep him. I just think that Geoffrey has to figure out what is going on and Pollard will have to answer to someone. Sharpen the pitch forks and fuel up the torches.

I don't care why at this point. I only care if he's going to poach all of our wrestlers. I wish ISU2007 would chime in, he knows more about this stuff than 99% of the posters on here.

Pollard isn't necessarily to blame, just unexpectedly hired unloyal coaches. Selfishness by the coach as well. Yet, how can Cael be selfish if he left one of the elite wrestling programs in the nation? What's so great at Penn State? As far as I see, he took a step back. Maybe that is what he wanted.

Pollard is still doing a great time. He should never be the one to blame for events like these.

If anything like that happened (and assuming JP was at fault), then CS needs to let us all know, so we can all unite in sending JP on his way. Or tell us what really happened so we can judge who is full of ****... JP or CS or both! I am sick of these politically correct press releases.

At some point in the future, and assuming there were tensions between the two, when Pollard is no longer the AD... would Cael entertain the idea of returning?? Assuming he's both successful and a "cyclone" at heart.

One other note... I can't image why the two would have reason to have a "heated" argument?

Do you think JP or Cael is going to come out and openly tell what happened? Get real. Like I stated my sources come from people associated with the AD (director and department). So what would lead me to believe in anything but what I heard?

I just can't buy into the "He and Jamie had a bad relationship" angle on why Cael left. How often did they actually have to interact? Was JP at every wrestling practive micromanging things? Did they have to share a cubicle? Maybe JP told Cael no on some funding requests but hey he was the highest paid coach in the country after having never had a coaching gig... what more do you want?

I've had several bosses that I didn't like and it wouldn't be a reason to give up a commitment to my coworkers and for Cael, his fans. (I don't actually have any fans so I can't really relate to that).

Seems to me this has to be about a couple things.

1) More money...... duh!
2) Getting away from recruiting competition with Brands. ( I actually think Brands gets under Caels skin and even though he still has to face him in the B11 it won't be as much pressure as at ISU)

My gut tells me that part of it is also Cael searching for something that matches his high during his winning trend when he wrestled. He is a guy not used to finishing second. Despite being new to the coaching business he is probably not satified with what his teams have accomplished (He has frequently mentioned that his wrestlers aren't as motivated as he was.) I think he is chasing that feeling and because he has not found it as the coach at Iowa State he is going to try chasing it elsewhere. When you've attained perfection can anything else compare?

If this is the case I have no doubt he will try to take wrestlers with him because if it is all about his personal success what would he care about ISU losing it's future. If he doesn't loot our talent then I think it is just about the money and having less recruiiting competition.

Could a bad relationship with Pollard exist..... sure. I just can't see it as being a big part of the picture. I'll screw over all of these wrestlers, students, and fans just to get even with the AD???? I'm not buying it. Could it be a small part, maybe but I don't think it could be a big reason.

I agree with you, we'll never hear the whole truth, and that's what makes me mad. You and your sources might be honest, but there is no way for anyone (unless they know you personally) to know for sure. I just have to make up my own opinion based on the dishonest press releases. That's why I wish someone would just come out and say it exactly how they feel. But that way CS and JP would only hurt themselves, and they care for themselves more than ISU.

Jamie Pollard

Cael left a place where he finished 2nd, 5th, and 3rd in the NCAA's for Penn State. He left a place where he loved, where his wife is from, where is brother wrestles, and where he was the highest paid coach in the country. He left it all for Penn St, a school that probably isn't close to Iowa State in wrestling tradition.

He says he is going there b/c there is more talent (BS) but YET he is going to try and bring his recruits?!?!? Interesting

He says he has a better chance at winning a National Championship there. Even though ISU has won more than PSU and he was close to winning it the past 3 years!!! Interestin

It is all PR and it smells of BS. He isn't going to come out and say he hates Pollard and Pollard won't say that either. How do you not keep a legend like Cael happy???!!??!!
