I don't feel sad for him. He know the ramifications of being caught gambling. They all did. Any player who bets on their own team has to expect things could go wrong. Have they not heard of Pete Rose? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know how easy it is for authorities to backtrack to a cell phone or laptop. Brock waited a long time for his shot to piss it down his leg. I do wish his talents were available in the backfield this fall, but I think Remsburg is the only one likely to be back.
I said what I said not knowing any of the facts or any of the alleged betting.

From a purely FB point of view, and him waiting his turn, so to speak, it was hardest to hear that he was a part in all of this.

I am most sad for him.
If this were a misunderstanding or NCAA overreach I would feel bad for Jirehl. This is neither, he, and the rest of them, brought his completely on themselves. I do feel bad for these players teammates that they have to deal with the ramifications of the moronic decision to gamble, not only on college football, but on your own team.

1 - Lee, our D is based on having a strong DL and when you lose a player like Lee that really hurts that group.

2 - Brock, I thought he really showed some skill when he was healthy. He seemed to have the most ability to move the ball behind the awful OL we had. Really was looking forward to seeing him healthy and maybe playing behind a better OL this year.

I think everyone except Lee has a chance of being replaced by a player that doesn't see a huge amount of drop off. I think Dekkers would be a huge loss if last year didn't sour me so much on him. I think there was a chance that he improved this offseason, but I almost welcome a fresh start at that position even if there is growing pains.

'member when Mark Mangino came in for 1.5 seasons?

You talk about instability in the program.

Man could he rock a Cyclones quarter zip though.

I agree with your sentiment. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t know who Pete Rose is

Again, just crazy how long Jirehl waited for it to be his time, and poof.
What sucks the very most about it is this year was really going to be his showcase season, his last chance to stand out and demonstrate his skills for the NFL. With how old he will be come draft season (23 I assume) he was probably a bit of a long shot anyway, but kiss about any chance he had goodbye now.

Agree 100% that Lee is a crippling loss. On paper, you might have guys that are just as good, maybe even one or two who are better. But depth on the D line, especially interior D line is critical as you and others have mentioned. The drop off may not be noticeable until the 2nd half of games, later in the season etc as guys get tired and depth becomes a bigger issue. You just have to really pray at this point for no injuries to that position group.

Dekkers' antics last year, followed by all that has transpired and revelations that no one really liked him, says that his removal is addition by subtraction. The QB position is so critical. I'm actually really glad he's gone. Seeing what we have in Becht and Kohl is the most exciting part of this season IMO. The other guys were all very replaceable; I don't think there was much difference between the ones and twos.

I've been pessimistic about this season, but I'm starting to turn the corner to think that this may be the inspiration the team needs to really surprise all of us with a decent year. No expectations, got rid of their cancer, new vibes, better chemistry--that stuff all makes a difference in the win/loss column, and the enjoyability of watching them.

I'm being gossipy but some time I'd like to hear more on this.

I'm guessing attitude and at times it showed. Quite a few times I saw him give up on plays as he was visibly frustrated. He definitely wasn't a fan of the plays coming in late (though who could blame him), that much is sure.

I'd surmise the attitude wore thin with some of his teammates. Can't say I'm surprised.

People must be clamoring for health here forcing that Brock Lee combination.

Ok, after I explain myself I'll see myself out. I chose Dekkers and Brock. Even though Dekkers left a lot on the table to be desired, he still had experience and could occasionally move the offense along, while seemingly ending drives with TO's. I think he still could have helped the QB room progress more, but I guess the other side of it is it presses these younger QB's to push themselves harder. I feel kind of bad for Brock. He chose to stick around after being in Hall's shadow and was waiting patiently for his time and he muffed that up. While he wasn't as versatile as Hall, he did have some positive attributes that we definitely needed in the RB room. That, as well as depth because injuries to the position always happen. Hall and DM aren't easily replaceable apparently, so we kind of need someone to step in and was hoping Brock would officially take over. The other groups I feel usually have depth and next man up usually fills those nicely.

Even without the gossip his antics in shows of disgust towards teammates during games left me not liking him at all. What I heard of his off field behavior matched what I saw on the field. Was like a pitcher in baseball being openly disgusted with a teammate making an error behind him. You. Just. Do. Not. Do. IT. Just because professional ******** like Rodgers can do it doesn't mean an unproven rookie QB can do it.

I don't think it's as crippling as you're making it though. Sure, having him is better than not having him, but it's not like we're 2-3 games in and he went down. Other guys have had to step up and answer the call.

Dom Orange, JR Singleton, and Tyler Onyedim are all very good defensive linemen and with us playing a three front, should be more than capable of holding their own because you'll maybe only see Tyler in there with the other two at the same time.

But who is behind any of the other guys you mentioned? We all know the names Dom Orange, JR Singleton and Tyler Onyedim. If any one of those guys goes down now, with Lee no longer present, the D Line suddenly becomes an issue. If that happens, and teams are running for 7-8 yard chunk plays at will against us, we will be missing Lee. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, and then I agree the loss of Lee can me mitigated, but as of now I see Lee as a bigger loss than anyone else from the gambling sting - Dekkers, Hanika, Remsburg etc.

Edited to add that aside from Lee's presence in the starting lineup, as a 5th year senior, I am also under the impression that he was a pretty big deal from a leadership standpoint. Could have been in line to be a captain. Having a guy like Lee around can do wonders for morale. How will the younger D Linemen be when the lights turn on and they are staring down Iowa OL and Big 12 OL? Time will tell of course.

Yeah I got Caitlin Clark vibes from him on occasion. Too bad his skill level didn't also match.

First thought was to say Brock, but I think we have enough horses in the RB room that his "WAR" isn't that big.
Same with Lee. Depth is important, but Lee was a "guy" not a "dude" as Woody would say.

So I went with Dekkers and Remsberg. Having a returning starter at QB is a big deal, even if he was 'erratic' last year. Teams with returning experienced starting QBs do well in CFB (see: Duggan, Max)

And the OL is critical this year. I was/am hoping that Remsberg with a new/better coach would be back to what he looked like he could be as a freshman.

Yeah there's a difference between directing teammates/holding them accountable which might involve some harshness, and acting like it was their fault.

I thought he was the same toward coaches....sometimes that's the relationship between player and coach but it seemed like he was just abrasive to input.
