Where will Monte go in tonight's NBA Draft?

Nuggets seem to want to trade for Bledsoe at pg, which would open up backup duties for Monte.

Great for Monte...he will play at some time. Still a tad bit surprised that someone didn't take a chance on Deonte in the late 50's...but teams seemed to be locked onto the freshmen and internationals...

((( WAY TO GO, MONTE!!! )))

From Bleacher Report:
51. Denver Nuggets: Iowa State PG Monte Morris (A)

Denver is a team on the rise, thanks to breakout superstar Nikola Jokic, but it has a hole at point guard. Jameer Nelson is on the back side of his career, and Emmanuel Mudiay hasn't worked out and likely needs a change of scenery.

Enter Morris, who was one of the best players in the competitive Big 12 last year and led the Cyclones to an NCAA tournament berth.

Don't be surprised if Monte Morris is starting playoff games for the Denver Nuggets at point guard next season.

If the Denver Nuggets have space on their roster, Monte Morris is good enough to challenge for playing time. Point guard is the weakest position in the Mile High City while Emmanuel Mudiay continues to stagnate and Jamal Murray settles in as a combo guard, which gives this Iowa State product a chance to emerge as a steal.

Morris might have more trouble scoring in the NBA, but he spent 2016-17 proving (yet again) that he was one of the NCAA's most deft distributors. It's tough enough to average 6.2 assists per game at the college level; it's tougher still to do so while turning the ball over just 1.5 times per outing.

Don't be surprised when Morris not only makes the team, but also earns legitimate playing time.

    Grade: A

They said a crowded backcourt?

They have 4 first rounders in the backcourt the last 4 years: Mudiay, Gary Harris, Jamal Murray, and Malik Beasley. They may move Mudiay, but I think they hope that Murray can play PG.

They may think that, but hope isn't a strategy, and Murray won't ever be a legit PG in the league. He could bring the ball up, sure, but he's a combo guard at best. The more I see this situation, the more I like it for Monte.

They're going to move Mudiay or Harris this summer. Once that happens Monte will have a clear path to the backup PG spot there. I don't see Murray ever being a full time PG. Maybe in spots, but he's probably better off the ball.

I'm thrilled for Monte. I don't know enough about the nuggets to know if this is a good fit for him but I'd never doubt him.

I read a comment about him that I hadn't thought of...basically as a back up, he'd likely be good on defense because he won't be playing 48 minutes. That's a great point.

They drafted Mitchell before Monte as well so he really has a tough road. They have to trade some guys and he has to rely on a guy like Mitchell not being able to play PG.

Mitchell is a true Shooting Guard though, so that shouldn't be to much of competition between him and Monte for a spot, unless they want all combo guards. I may be in the minority but I was very confused why Mitchell was so high, he's an undersized shooter, almost 21, and didn't have eye popping offensive numbers. Idk, it was just strange to me.

So, long term prediction:
Monte plays 18 years in the league, playing in the all-star game 7 times. Retires from Professional basketball to take an assistant coaching position with Coach Prohm. Stays an assistant for 5 years, and as Coach Prohm retires after 25 years at the helm of the Cyclones (with 6 Final 4's and 2 National Championships) takes over the head coaching duties and leads the Cyclones to 21 Final 4's and 10 National Championships in his 37 year career as head coach of the Cyclones. He retires as the one person with the most wins overall as a player and coach in the history of the NCAA.
