Just my hunch, but I'm guessing stuff like AAU status matters a whole lot less than it used to - simply because there aren't as many schools to choose from any longer (thanks to consolidation), and it's pretty nakedly dollars and cents driving the bus here and the pretense of any of this being driven by academics is done.
We'll see.

OU and TX may be shopping around, but if they go anywhere, it won't be for 5 more years because the Big 12 owns their TV revenue until then.
I also doubt OSU is going to the Pac 12 because the Oklahoma legislature has said before that OU and OSU are a package deal.
Finally, I don't think it's a given that KU would end up on the Big 10. They have the worst football program and football facilities in the country. The Big 10 is already dragged down by Rutgers, and I don't think they want to take on another program that is the laughing stock of Div I football.
I do worry, though, that this latest flirtation by OU and UT has destroyed whatever level of trust and loyalty the Big 12 had developed after the last missile crisis.

Could still for B1G (wanting that exclusive feel) but I think P12 is more desperate for $$ now and will be more open to taking a TT or Okie State even with weaker academics.
What would "newly constituted" be that is significantly different than just joining the American?

Ok Texas and OU. Sure, go next year. We'll have their tv revenue for 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. The 8 of us will still have all the Fox and ESPN revenue to split.Welp, sounds like we're going to get the answer to this sooner rather than later.

The reason it matters for the Big 10 is because they can be choosy. AAU status will always be a big deal for the Big 10. It's a big part of the prestige.
That’s a disaster of a league. Cost of travel and lack of revenue would kill us. Better to get into the pac 16 than that.
Plus the conference champion would never get in the playoff.
Would have to go undefeated with a legit non-conference win, and look dominant doing it. Then maybe sneaks in as 11 or 12.
If you'd read my post, you'd see TV markets was only a portion of the reasoning. Yes, ISU is a large school with good academics and a good geographic fit. But I don't think there's any denying the fact that we are historically a bad team in both football and basketball (more so in football historically). Other schools have more name recognition, Heisman winners, etc. I'd love to see us in the Big Ten, but I think the odds of that happening are approaching 0%.
I didn't post it because I like it. I posted it because I think if the league gets raided and ISU is not in the Big Ten that's what we'd be looking at.
Gigantic Pac/Big 12 merger that includes Texas/OU could save us.
As much as I'd love it living in LA, Iowa State and KSU are never going to be in UCLA's conference unless Texas is part of the deal.
Maybe…I’m sure KU cares about KState about as much as we care about the hawks. Perhaps their legislature moves to make them a package deal like OK did.
