Where Will ISU End Up If the Big 12 Implodes?

I doubt Texas and OU would continue pushing forward on this if they weren't confident they had the votes to be accepted to SEC...

But other than $, I dont see why Arkansas, Mizz, Ole Miss, Vandy would vote yes.

And to the $ side... how exactly would it raise $ for these other schools. Just splitting media rights? Tix sales? Ability to recruit texas? But if there W/L average goes down which it will, they wont be any better of with tix or recruits

Okay, tell me, how much revenue does ISU generate for media rights?

If ISU and KU leave that kills the B12. With that the price for game inventory goes up for the remaining conferences. So while your question, at the surface, is a valid one it doesn't take into account the entire picture. ISU's value goes up tremendously in its merits.

Obviously we'd all like to have kept the status quo, but Iowa State has never in their history been a more desirable athletic program than they are right now, and we just so happen to have a rock star at AD. I feel like we'll come out as well as we possibly could in such a scenario, under Jamie's direction.

Let's all just pray the Big Ten would prefer strength in numbers of high-profile academic institutions and wants to ensure they aren't left behind if the SEC continues to poach other high profile schools.

Maybe, so how much does it go up and does it add value to the Big 10 rights contracts?

People keep telling me I'm wrong, but nobody will tell me how all of a sudden ISU is suddenly 55 million dollars.

I think the big12 goes out and tries to get back to 12 teams. I think they should either go east or west. So if they go east add Memphis, Cincy, UCF and try and steal Virginia Tech or Virginia. Or go West and add Boise, Colorado State, Houston and UNLV. Definitely weakens the conference but were not going to be able to add in a big name team. I just dont see us getting invited to any big conference, as sad as it is. And if we dont end up in a big conference i think Iowa State should sue oklahome and texas for costing this school millions in revenue.

One thing I know for sure…we should be trying to gtfo at all costs at all times until we’re out.

It could be a lot worse timing. We could be coming off another stellar Chizik season with all this crap going on.

I am changing my vote to the Big ten. Not thrilled about it. However, Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa in football. Iowa twice in basketball and also Fred Coming back to Hilton would all be fun. Especially if we beat them.

What's left?

Who is to say they won't go after all the top tier programs and brands? Notre Dame, Clemson, Florida State, USC, UCLA, Oregon. Why not make a play for Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State? No one knows what their end goal is...

They will vote yes, because they're told to vote yes. Those schools aren't rocking the boat because they are along for the ride. Just like ISU was in the B12.

At this point a little fish are just trying to survive.

Agreed.

The other thing that's fascinating to consider about all of this are the inherent conflicts of interests and competing interests. Each of the 8 schools has their own interests. Bowlsby, and the Big XII staff / officers, have different interests. Largely, their interest is to act in the best interest of the conference. Pollard's interest, as AD, is to act in the best interest of ISU. Those may conflict and while Bowlsby may be pushing something on the conference membership, such as "hey, let's go make overtures to Houston and Cincy to join," I'm hoping we'll shoot for bigger and better things and realize that may not be in our interest. We also have particular duties to each other, legal duties, and conflicts will arise.

What a time to be Director of Athletics at ISU. Jamie has served us all well to this point in so many ways. If we make it out of this in the PAC or Big Ten he should be on the ISU Mount Rushmore that others were talking about weeks ago;-)

The Big 10 is a pipe dream.

There is nothing that we offer that league that Iowa doesn't already get them. Unfortunately that's how this works.

Do TV markets matter or potential subscriptions? If it was only TV markets, sure. How about AAU status? A good football program with great facilities? Regional similarity. Seems like we have a bit to offer.
