I've been advocating for Kempt to start on Saturday for a couple of reasons, including that if someone was 'sick' enough to leave the team, they are probably not well enough in one week. But I understand people that think Jacob should start on Saturday and I fully expect that no matter who starts on Saturday, Jacob will be our starting quarterback in the last game of the season.
But I think you are underselling what Kempt did a bit by saying "He did would a backup should do." Jesus Christ, he didn't just manage the team to a win, he passed for over 300 yards and 3 TDs, he completed something like 18-24 passes, and he led the team to score on 5 straight drives to end the game. And he did it all against the #3 team in the country on the road. I know we are all pretending that Oklahoma is a garbage team not even worthy of taking the field against Akron now, but Oklahoma is a good team.
Yes, he had a couple of deep throws, but how many of those yards came after the catch? All of that was designed by Manning's play calling. He didn't sit back there and go through a 4 WR progression much. The TD pass to Lazard at the end?-- Designed. He looked Lazard the whole way. He was probably told to throw it to him.
I'm not trying to take anything away from Kempt cause he did have a special day. But I won't take back the "He did what back ups should do" because he did. He thrived with Manning's playcalling.
If anything, he deserves way more credit for making Kempt look that park.
But people coming in here saying Kempt needs to start over Park the rest of year is just nuts.
