Where do we go at QB from here?

What would you do at QB?

I've been advocating for Kempt to start on Saturday for a couple of reasons, including that if someone was 'sick' enough to leave the team, they are probably not well enough in one week. But I understand people that think Jacob should start on Saturday and I fully expect that no matter who starts on Saturday, Jacob will be our starting quarterback in the last game of the season.

But I think you are underselling what Kempt did a bit by saying "He did would a backup should do." Jesus Christ, he didn't just manage the team to a win, he passed for over 300 yards and 3 TDs, he completed something like 18-24 passes, and he led the team to score on 5 straight drives to end the game. And he did it all against the #3 team in the country on the road. I know we are all pretending that Oklahoma is a garbage team not even worthy of taking the field against Akron now, but Oklahoma is a good team.

Yes, he had a couple of deep throws, but how many of those yards came after the catch? All of that was designed by Manning's play calling. He didn't sit back there and go through a 4 WR progression much. The TD pass to Lazard at the end?-- Designed. He looked Lazard the whole way. He was probably told to throw it to him.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Kempt cause he did have a special day. But I won't take back the "He did what back ups should do" because he did. He thrived with Manning's playcalling.

If anything, he deserves way more credit for making Kempt look that park.

But people coming in here saying Kempt needs to start over Park the rest of year is just nuts.

Are many people saying that he should start the rest of the year? I think that there are some saying he should start on Saturday. And I suppose a few saying he should start the rest of the year. But, yet again, you are reverting to hyperbole.

From what I've seen people are calling for Park to be benched when hes back, even healthy. Look at the poll, even.

Interesting note on Kyle Kempt. According to 247 he had offers out of high school from ole miss, West Virginia, Tennessee, Indiana and Oregon st. He had a eating of .8228 ranked as the 51 best pro style

How would you rate Kempt in these?

All I'm trying to say is Park is a better QB than Kempt. Watch film on Park.
I rate Park higher on the first 2 (arm strength and release) and rate Kempt higher on accuracy on long passes, vision, and elusiveness. They both seem to be very accurate on short passes - Park's ball gets there quicker while Kempt's ball seems more catchable.

I think we will learn a lot about Park's character if he comes back as 2nd string. Hopefully, he will be an asset and realize that he has another year to prove himself.

No way Kempt is more elusive and saying he's more accurate down the field is pretty optimistic. He's fine, but on the two in the middle of the field he had a huge window and he under threw Butler, which is what you do there because pretty much the only way you lose that matchup is to overthrow it.

I don't know what you do with the QBs. No clue but, to say that Kempt is better down the field is just a little bit out there at this point. It's a small sample size and he wasn't asked to do it. The other thing is he played against a lot of man coverage which is a little different in how you make decisions and what it takes to complete passes in the intermediate and down the field. Maybe he can tear apart a zone but at this point it's hard to cite hard evidence of that.

Why would you choose Kempt over a 100% healthy Park? Because he "seems different"?
Remember, we have fans like jsb and clonedude that like to make wild judgements in character and what a player is thinking from what they see on TV. They use hyperbole as logic. Sweat not glistening enough? Player doesn't care. No uncontrollable smiles after a teammate scores? Player is selfish and hates teammates.

Don't bring Park back, he totally mismanaged the offense against Texas, but may have had *something* affecting his on field performance. The season is too short to throw even one game away, can you imagine being 4-1?

Team is on a rally, change nothing you don't have to
So you're also in favor of firing Manning? He is the one that totally mismanaged the UT game.
I have it on good authority that Campbell knows what is best for this team and will put them in the best situation to win
How many of these posters were crushing CMC prior to the game, thinking it was a mistake or calling for Zeb?

Could it be that Jacob is trying too hard, but not for the teams betterment. His passes are lazers, throwing too hard at the wrong time? Looking to hit the big plays, holding the ball longer so the recievers can get down field, resulting in being flushed from the pocket and throwing on the run increasing the chances of a ball poorly placed for the reciever, overthrows and ints. Not making the decision to throw it in the stands when needed, instead just throwing it into coverage. I love a guy who is competitive, but when it leads to frustration you need to be able to handle it. I heard at the Akron game he got mad and went an stood off by himself. We are know how the Texas frustration played out. I get the feeling he is so wrapped up in the "I need to be highly visable and stand out" state, that it effects the teams preformance.

I remembered an article where he talked about his desires to play NFL. I just reread it, and am seeing the possibilty he is putting himself before the team. We need him and I hope it will work out for the team and him.

After Saturday I say Kempt. But the last decade of ISU QB history tells me otherwise. Every single QB we've ever had has come out of his first game a hero and every single one of them turned out to be a dud....when you see the team hoisting him up in the locker room.

Agree. You do worry about the one hit wonder syndrome.
My hope is the Kyle comes out against Kansass and looks good again. Park watches all of this as he returns and learns to play under control, takes the checks and gets the ball out, and most of all, listens to what the coaches are telling him.

I am worried about the one hit wonder thing too. What does give me hope that it won't be the case is that Kempt seems to have an almost unnatural calmness about him that I hope keeps him on a pretty consistent level.

I really hope this staff can get it in the kids' heads that "This is where we belong" not, "Oh look at us, lowly ISU beat OU" I've seen this play out, seems past coaches have played along with the media. I don't want this to be a "Signature win" I want it to be a more common occurrence. Seems past coaches have played into the media hype about huge upsets and signature wins. I want us going forward to believe this is what we can do, any day, anywhere.

Agreed. It's not like this was some miraculous performance. The players on the team went out and did their jobs. They executed the game plan and did what needed to be done to win.

NO turnovers
NO bad penalties
NO drops
NO forced passes

This shows that the team is good enough to do this every week if they just execute. I really hope they can do that going forward.

It will be pretty funny/depressing to come back here when things aren’t going well and we can’t move the ball because teams are sitting in the flats waiting for the screen.
I hope they do. It will open up the middle of the field for Montgomery and dare I say the tight ends. This staff will continue to add more downfield passes and Kyle is smart enough to recognize when to change the play.

Lets not forget that every week he runs the opponents offense, so its not like he just stands there with a clipboard. He is getting plenty of snaps and can run a north/south offense. If he couldn't, the coaches would find someone else. BTW he was scout team player of the year last season, so I would guess he handled it well.

Why the **** is the staff playing Kempt? We need to play Zeb and his stronger arm. Go over the top on KU.

Wrong. The scout team QB runs the other teams offense, not the 2nd or 3rd stringer.
