Whoever thought that arena design was a good idea needs their head examined. The bowl design puts less seats close to the action and the stairs end up creating empty space close to the court. Less premium seating equals less revenue and less atmosphere. I attended Iowa for one year before transferring to ISU. I had student tix the year I was there and felt like I was miles from the court and I was in the lower third of the bowl.

I agree with all of this. However, despite all of those disadvantages, I've been in Carver multiple times when it has been rocking and an intimidating place to play. The level of play from Iowa bball has been for the most part bad for the last 20 years with a few good years here and there.

When has Carver ever been rocking? I've been to multiple Iowa vs ISU games there and it's one of the worst road venues I've been to

Been a while for sure. During the 80s and most of the 90s it was a good atmosphere. I recall Kendall Gill saying something like it was the toughest place to play in the Big 10 at the time. Alford had a few years where it was good too and it wasn't too bad during the Aaron White years. But you are right, for the most part of the last 15 years or so it hasn't been good.

My memories are that it used to be a good atmosphere in the Dr. Tom era. Went to a couple games back then and it was full and loud, but that was like 20 years ago and against Michigan and Indiana.
For most Hok fans that was, literally, yesterday - the 80s never really went away.

I wish they would return. Very good to great football, basketball, wrestling and women's bball programs. That decade will be hard to repeat itself.

The fans sat on their hands until a little over nine minutes to go during the Pitt game the other night. We sat next to the student section, small and not very knowledgeable. They also don't have much more room for students so it isn't going to be rocking during many games. I was sitting in the Pitt section.

Carver has been going downhill for years, but it was rocking back in the early 2000's yet. Once the Alford era went downhill and Lick did his thing it hasn't been the same since.

So what did you disagree with in my statement? I've been to many road venues and Carver is one of the worst

When I lived in C.R. after college it dawned on me that many people there and from the surrounding area really stayed stuck in their high school modes/egos so this adds up.
