When do you start to dislike someone

You're a ******* idiot. What did Self ever contribute to ISU basketball? For the love of god this guy helped create the most successful period of ISU basketball on history! ISU will have a top 10 team next year, the best returning team in ISU history.


Omg a recruit he was solely responsible for bringing to ISU followed him to SJU! What a shady scumbag cheater! Get some perspective. How ungrateful could you possibly be?

I can agree here on this.
 
I don't really think "OMG scumbag cheater" for Williams following him, but at the same point I wouldn't credit him with so much of the programs success. I'd say more of that (at least early) recruiting success would be on TJ. If TJ was responsible for a lot of the seniors, and a lot of the recruits like Ejim that helped bring this program along.

Don't hate Matt, just don't like him taking players either.

Am I happy Williams left to go to SJU? No.

Am I going to turn on Matt and hate him and attack his character because of it? Of course not.

And TJ obviously had a huge hand in it as well.

But Matt was responsible for Royce and Kane. Those two alone are big enough to cement his ISU legacy.

Without Royce ISU probably is a year behind current pace at minimum, and Kane was an addition that put ISU over the top during the 2nd best season in Iowa State history.
 
I swear if a dude pulled some of you guys out of a burning building while unconscious you would be ****** at him an hour later when you woke up and realized he didn't grab your favorite sweater.
 
I am thankful and appreciate his time here. I hope he fails at St. Johns because he is competing against ISU. I hope we hire him back because he is an excellent recruiter.

It's OK to like a guy for what he did, and not like him for what he's doing now. Yes, he's just doing his job. Doesn't mean he's a bad guy or we don't appreciate what he did. Just hope he doesn't recruit athletes that we want at ISU.

Everyone on this board liking Dan Gable? Cael Sanderson? Wes Johnson?

And Matt got a job at his alma mater, I'd say he gave as much as he took from ISU. I don't have any ill will towards the guy but idk why we have to pretend like it's not the least bit slimy that he used ISU's resources and brand name to help his new coach.

Kind of off topic but why would a recruit go with the coach who recruited him? Isn't that basically exposing that they are full of it. They are saying ignore what I've been saying is the best place for you the last year, there's a better place now....based soley on the fact that I have a different job. I never understood how you could believe anything a coach who has flipped jobs. They were either dishonest about their previous job or are feeding you a line about their new gig.

The 50% here were convinced the BDJ meltdown the 24 hours leading up to the NCAA game, and his behavior during the pregame, during halftime, and 2nd half

...HAD ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING on the outcome vs UAB

Because George and others should made their shots, or rebounded....blah blah blah

BDJ was a HUGE distraction and a primary reason we lost.....We should of blasted UAB by 25 pts

How often are we truly competing with St. John's? We rarely go after NY players which is St. Johns' primary market. Dan Gable was never a coach at ISU, was he? So I think it's dumb to be mad at him for that. You can dislike him for coaching the Hawks, but we actually compete against them so that's different. Why do you not like Wesley Johnson? ISU was a dumpster fire when he was here and he found a way out, and that way out led him to the NBA. Good on him. I wouldn't have wanted to play for ISU at that time either. Cael is in between, because he was a Cyclone wrestler and a coach, but then again he went to Penn State. It's not like he was coaching ISU and decided he wanted to coach Iowa. We don't compete with him very much anymore.

Do you hate everyone who leaves Iowa State for career advancements? Are you mad at your friends from college who got jobs elsewhere, because they left you?

Gable was an assistant here before taking the Iowa job

Not to mention the fact that it's silly to use Matt's success in obtaining his dream job as a reason to be ok with hating him for mildly inconveniencing ISU's historically great team returning next year, built in part by multiple pieces that Matt himself added.

I liked Frank Martin before I saw this pic. Now I ******* love the man. That is one of the greatest ugly Christmas sweaters I've ever seen
 
Matt A.'s leaving isn't that big of a deal to me, nor is Williams' choosing SJU. It might be for me if Williams had played for a year or something, and then followed to St. John's. He never played at ISU, and there's no guarantees that he would have worked out. M.A.'s comments about coaching with Fred again some day are a little suspect, but then again Fred tends to make comments that could be noted for being suspect too, i.e. he does't seem to define just HOW committed he is to staying at ISU. Probably a part of the job.

Otherwise, I generally start to dislike someone in today's world when they live through social media/their phone, exhibit subtle toxic behaviors for their own enjoyment, and/or are real nosy about other folks' personal stuff that isn't relevant to their own livelihood. These characteristics tend to show up in the same people.

Thanks for the kind words. You are too concerned about somebody's opinion on somebody that you've probably never talked to. Don't let my dislike for him effect you so much.
