At what point are we going to stop talking about this? Every time we post we give it more creedance/cred. I am as guilty but we should be acting like Barry Sanders getting into the endzone-it is what he did and didn't celebrate/gloat toooo much.
I really think that is how we need to approach beating Iowa et al. The bigger thing is let's get the et al. added to our resume. Furthermore; wouldn't it be better to say we beat an awesome Iowa team, instead of we stole a 2 pt victory from a crappy team?
We should probably move on... But if Iowa goes on to have a 2002 season and we fall flat on our face, then it proves we only get up for the Iowa game. So seriously, I wouldn't care to see Iowa fall flat on their faces and us doing what is predicted out of us which is a 4 win season or so.
I really don't want to see Iowa fun the table. Then it really looks like this was our superbowl.
definition for an excuse is trying to explain an inexplicable loss
You have identified the real problem, but probably are not perceptive enough to realize it.
Hawk fans keep telling themselves that their is no way that they should have lost to ISU and just can't handle it. There has to be some type of excuse or odd explanation. No way could ISU have just as good of program, coaches, or players as the mighty UofI.
ISU fans know that there is no reason to accept the hawk beliefs as fact. We see the vision that our AD has for the athletic program and the passion that fans demonstrated this past weekend. In these areas, we are actually the one's who can claim superiority to what we have witnessed out of iowa city. ISU fans would also be relunctant to settle for an even swap of coaching staffs at this point in time. When it comes to players, forget press clippings or pre-game mindsets. It comes down to individual matchups or as Coach Chizik said "winning the small victories." No fluke, no lucky bounces, no bad call - ISU won the game.
When you go back and look at the game from this angle, there simply is no clear difference between the 2 squads. Both sides won some battles with ISU having an edge in this matchup. Play again, and Iowa may or may not make a few more plays. Hawk fans who look at the rivalry this way and respect ISU will have my respect. The remaining clueless masses can take a flying leap.
Didn't I read somewhere that they recently added a minute to the clock to adjust for irregularities in the orbit of the earth? Make sure to count that!:biglaugh:
ISU beat Iowa - no excuses. It just leaves people scratching their heads, based on the play of the previous two weeks by the two teams.
What will make it even more inexplicable - and this is a big if - if Iowa wins this weekend and ISU loses. Then what would that say about last weekend?
Yes, ISU won. However, what makes this inexplicable for anybody outside of the ISU fan base, is the fact that Iowa dominated inferior opponents (Northern Illinois and Syracuse), while ISU was dominated by Kent State and D-IAA Northern Iowa.
Northern Iowa and Kent State are good squads. However, I'm not willing to say that Kent State vs. Syracuse wouldn't be a good game, or Northern Iowa vs. Northern Illinois wouldn't be a good game - they'd be good games.
But the thing is, since those teams are evenly matched, and Iowa dominated them, you'd think they would have come in with the same intensity against ISU - but that didn't happen. Or, you'd think that ISU would come in with a similar intensity against Iowa - but that didn't happen.
