What would you rather guarantee?

It's how you finish and Elite 8 would be spectacular. If you did get blown out in the first game of the NCAA tourn I guess you could say we'll we at least won the Big XII. You just want to be playing your best basketball at the end of the season and the wins will fall into place.
Regular Season championship, because that could possibly lead to a 1 seed and an easier road to the Elite 8, and we could shut up Kansas fans for a while.
If I found a college sports genie we'd get all 3 of those because I'd wish I was on the current Cyclone team, but averaging 30/20/10.

As a fan I'd much rather win the big 12 tournament. I don't remember who or where we beat a team to win the regular season, and I don't immediately recall who we beat to GET to the elite 8.....but I sure as heck remember being at the big 8 tournament and our tourney wins during the Fizer era. IMO as a fan I take more pride and excitement from that.
As a program....I'd want the elite 8 no question.

All of you that are choosing Elite 8, would you still answer that way if ISU went 5-13 in regular season conference, got hot in the tourney and got in that way. Then went on a run? Sure, we would get to the Elite 8 because we were hot, but would that really help recruiting as much as a regular season title? I think most that say Elite 8 are thinking that we finish in the top 4 of the league, and knock off some big boys en route to that position. This poll is just too tough without the storyline that accommodates the ends.
If the question is, if all storylines were the same, where would you like to be, then unequivocally we would all answer Elite 8. You would be saying that we won the Big XII season and tourney and finish at the Elite 8. But that obviously isn't where we were going with this question. So we have to know, did we finish 2nd in both? Did we finish 8th in the league and won the tourney? (Yes, I've been watching too much Breaking Bad and can't just answer a question simply anymore...)

Big 12 tourney champs. Guarantees a spot in the Big Dance. The rest will take care of itself. :wink:
The only thing I would want "guaranteed" (after watching this last football season) is that our team continues to have reasonably good health. They'll take care of everything else themselves.
I'd take Big 12 champs first (assuming it's not shared) just because Kansas' streak must end.
The tournament is a crap shoot and how far you make it doesn't mean much unless you're national champions. Nobody buys an "Iowa State Elite 8!" t-shirt, so that guarantee doesn't go quite far enough.
On the other hand, conference play is a meat grinder. The championship will be well earned. It's a big title, and someone besides Kansas needs to freakin' win it, now.

And just to throw it in there: with 10 teams, the Big 12 tournament isn't as special in comparison. If it were like the Big East tournament of a few years back (16 teams), then it'd be worth taking.
