What will Tebow haters say if.....

Here's the way I see the benefits of Tebow

1. Doesn't turn it over
2. Very few negative plays, always seems to get a yard, throws it away when he needs to
3. Gives the backs an extra second to get to the second level
4. Buys time to let bad receivers get a little more separation (normal QB would not be able to find guys to throw to)
5. Good presense in the huddle
6. Helps the defense, controls the ball, doesn't put them in a short field or in a position of having to take chances
7. Throws well on the run and outside the pocket, also needed with bad O-line and bad receivers
8. "Gimmick" system gives what would otherwise be the worst collection of offensive talent in the league a chance to compete.

Alot of those characteristics describe another team who has had some recent success.

I do not dislike him because of his religion, but because he brings up his religion too much, not too mention says things that are out of touch with reality.

Its about half and half. Half of it is him being a religious nut, half is the media asking leading questions and coaxing it out of him. If media didn't make such a big deal about it, it wouldn't be a big deal. Yeah, he talks about God more than the average athlete, but at least he talks about something he believes in. When he gets interviewed he responds with what he believes to be true, not the typical sports cliches that drive me crazy. "The team really gave it 110% out there." "It was a team effort." "We just never gave up" Makes me want to vomit.

Can I add another one?

9. Doesn't produce many points.

Tebow has led the Broncos to 18, 10, 31, 17, 10, and 16 points. They've scored over 20 points with him at QB once. Their offense is not good at all.

Their defense has been playing terrific and they've been benefitting from an easy schedule. He will not sustain his "success".

I'm not a big Tebow fan but I respect the attitude he plays with. QB's get a free pass for being just awful every week in the NFL but he seems to get singled out, I mean look at the Sunday night game. Big Ben guided a much more talneted offense to a whopping 13 points and he gets no criticism because his team won the game.

It is entirely inside the realm of possibility that they could win 4 of the next 5 games. They play a terrible Vikings team, Bears with Hanie (lawl), Patriots (this is the loss, although the Pats don't play well in Denver usually), a down Bills team, and the trrble Chiefs. Although they could lose 4 of 5 too.

I'm pretty sure Ben has a body of work (more than half a season) to demonstrate that he is a legitimate NFL QB. Any rookie is going to have more scrutiny than a seasoned veteran.
:skeptical:

If they lose 4 of 5, what do we say about him? Honest question. Cuz I really don't know. Their D is good enough to keep them in most of those games so I think they will all be close games...

Still don't know if Elway will allow him to be the starter next year. I think he has to do it just based on the fan base alone. They will hang him out to dry if he doesn't start Tebow. And if Tebow takes them to the playoffs this town will be ready to bow at their Lord's feet.

No rational person would give Ben credit for winning that game. People are, however, giving Tebow most of the credit for winning his games. That is the difference.

I don't even hate Tebow, and I respect the things he does well. I just don't think he should be receiving the credit for Denver's recent wins. Just as I don't think Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer should receive the credit for the Super Bowl winning teams in '03 and '01, respectively. Clearly, the defense was the driving force behind those teams.

Quarterbacks are given way too much credit/blame at every level of football. I can hardly watch ESPN football coverage because all they talk about is QB's. Gruden and Jaworski are the worst.

Anyone else see similarities in the Broncos and the Cyclones? Read option, good defense, mid-season QB change...

I still can't figure out why Tim Tebow is such an incredibly polarizing athlete. I also don't understand the media obssession. He was a great college player, and hasn't worked as a passing QB in the NFL. However, his team win games, and he at least isn't losing it for them. Its also not like he's the first outspoken Christian to play the game.

I think the answer has 4 letters....ESPN.

Over-exposure will do that to athletes (Tebow), musical acts (Justin Bieber), "Celebs" (Kim Kardasian or however you spell her name).

Notice I put quotes around Celebs....

78.5% of Americans are Christians. I feel for the guy because the media circus isn't his fault, but the "persecuted majority" thing gets old real fast.

Seems to me like he's getting more "hate" from his own GM than from the slim segment of non-Christians in our society.

I haven't heard Brian Xanders say anything bad about him in public.

This thread needs to be split into 2 groups. The people that hate Tebow as a person, and the people that hate Tebow as an NFL QB.

I agree 100% with what Jonecy said about wanting his son to watch Tebow as a role model. There are so many athletes that don't understand the stage that people put them on and then go out and do some absolutely stupid. Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, Michael Vick, Plaxico Buress, etc, etc. Whether they like it or not, professional athletes need to live by a certain standard because they can have a great effect on young, impressionable minds.

Denver's D is winning the games. All Tebow is doing is not losing them. It blows my mind that people can't see this.

I totally agree. breaking down the numbers and you can easily see this. The defense if allowing 2 less TDs per game and the offensive is putting up less points under Tebow. Now who is responsible for the Bronco turnaround?

If the defense played for Orton as they have over the past 5 wins, Denver would have 8-9 wins and a firm control over a playoff spot.

It has nothing to do with Tebow as a person to state that he should not be an NFL QB.

Does anyone actually hate Tim Tebow the person? I think he's a little annoying, and I wouldn't choose to spend much time around him, but he's not at all someone I would say I hate. It seems like he's at least genuine about what he believes, etc.

Really? Kyle Orton turned it over 9 times in the 4 1/2 games he has played. Tebow has turned it over 1 time in 6 1/2 games. You don't think that helps the defense a little? Look at Iowa State's defense. When we turn it over in opposing teams territory we give up 30+ points a game like we did against Texas.

As for the offense putting up less points. They are putting up 19 compared to 20 with Orton. HUGE difference!!! Right? Oh and Orton had Brandon Lloyd to pass to, and Moreno has another back out of the backfield

With Kyle Orton the Broncos lost AT HOME to the Raiders and Chargers. With Tebow they have won ON THE ROAD against both those teams.

Broncos defense is no different. Same players. They are playing better b/c they are put in better positions to succeed. It's tough to go 80 yards on teams and score a lot of points.
