Our final four drought compared to our peers is kind of embarrassing, especially when so many of us consider ourselves a basketball school. And even having a great team is no guarantee of a FF, see playing MSU in Detroit or Niang's broken foot.

I like the general spirit of @Jeremy though experiment, though.

Maybe it could skew a little more 50-50 for me if the Sweet 16-and-who-knows had a little more nuance.

Something like S16 with 75% chance of not advancing further, but 25% chance of reaching winning national title.

I concur (hesitantly) with the Final 4 option.

1 - It's a huge validation of TJ's philosophy (for those stupid remaining doubters).
2 - It's massive for recruiting, especially with our NIL struggles.
3 - It demonstrates that if we can get to a Final 4 with the current roster, the future is incredibly bright.
4 - We've done the Sweet 16 and the odds from there get so much tougher.

I can't really pick apart your logic. But I'll disagree anyway.

A huge part of being a fan, especially of Iowa State, is hope. I didn't listen to Pete Taylor on the radio in the 90s because we had had success. I listened because we always had the hope of winning the next game. Give me the sweet 16 and the hope for winning the next 4 games.
