Also depends on how good the team you are supporting is that particular year. A team that barely made the tournament? A final four sounds good.
But a top 10 team like we currently have? I would think we have as good a chance as anyone once we make it to the Sweet 16.

We've made plenty of Sweet 16's. We haven't made a final 4. I'm surprised anyone would vote any different.

We have had a top 4 team at the end of the season though...and that team I wanted to win it all, not just make the Final Four. Most likely would have won it all if they got past MSU.

It's a coin flip choice for me.

I can't either, though my memory is usually jogged when announcers are talking about teams that did, because they usually mention it.
I watched this one Thursday night and it was mentioned a lot. Some may forget it.
(Also, UAB first round flashbacks for me)
UAB and FAU has been up and down.
SDSU is easy for me to remember because of how much they talked about the coach.
Miami I could see forgetting but they bounced us out of the Sweet 16 the previous year.

I guess it also depends on how you get to the Sweet 16. If we're blowing teams out, shooting lights out, limiting opponent's rebounding, no injuries, etc.... Means we are clicking on all cylinders. In that case, give me Sweet 16 and any potential outcome.

Do I know before hand that they are going to lose in the FF? Because that would suck.

Give me the Sweet 16 because the excitement and anxiety is what makes the Tournament great.

I'm no doubt thinking about this the wrong way, but for me it depends on the mechanics of the actual wish granting.

If Blue Animated Robin Williams came to me today and said, "Hey, these are your two options, and then right after you choose, you'll forget this conversation ever happened," I'd go Final Four plus loss.

If on the other hand, Robin said, "Hey, there are your two options, but you'll be have the knowledge of what option you chose," I'd go Sweet Sixteen.

I think it'd be a huge amount of fun to see Iowa State get to the Final Four, conditional on me not having knowledge that it's going to happen. The greatness of sports is in its unpredictability. Take that away, you're taking away 80 percent of my interest.

Ehhh, 1944 was in final 4 losing to Utah in semifinals.

That being said that was a very different era. The NCAA tournament only had 8 teams that were invited regionally, not necessarily a top 8 nationally . And back then it wasn't even the clear #1 tournament (and was often inferior to the NIT) and some schools opted into the NIT over the NCAA tournament (or even did both!)

That Utah team that beat ISU on its way to the NCAA title? It lost in the first round of the NIT to Kentucky a few days earlier. Of course then After that Utah went on to beat NIT champion St Johns a few days later in a red cross war benefit game

Final Four loss 1000000000000000%

You've made it to the last weekend.
But why watch it?...we'll lose.
So give me a Sweet 16 that gives us a potential to win! Then we may make that final four and WIN

But you'd get all of the fun of getting to the Final 4. Half the reason the Sweet 16 is so fun is because it gives you an extra week with the team.

If we had made the Final 4 before (and, no, I don't count 1944), then I could see your point. But we've never had the fun of a 3rd NCAA weekend.
