Nothing is going to happen this year.

Pollard could not fire Gene if he wants to. He has spent the reserve fund dry firing coaching staffs already, Chizik is here for at least the length of his contract even if he never wins another game. Chizik is also going nowhere; he has two years invested in building this program which would be hard to leave. He also has 5 wins in 2 years which is not going to open doors for head coaching jobs elsewhere and he would take a huge pay cut to go back to being an assistant elsewhere not to mention he would do irreparable harm to his future coaching opportunities. His career is now tied 100% to what he does at ISU.

There. Does that make you happy?

I don't think I've even responded to the original question. Without even the second season completed, I just don't think it's appropriate to guess about what might happen in the future--and it isn't even considerate of Coach Chizik to do so.

I agree that it is entirely premature and foolish to call for Chizik's head - but I think that, as paying ticket holders, people have the absolute right to thnk about the future, and wonder what is going to happen. Right now everyone is buying hope - which is great, but it's just responsible to want to know what's being done to improve.

Also, we understand that everyone feels very differently - that's what a message board is for, to post those feelings. Chat on, guys.

I would vote sticks around, not sure about builds the program up. I would settle for McCarney levels at this point.

Anyone that would expect ANY coach to leave after two crappy seasons should realign their allegience to the K-State wildcats. McCarney won 3, 2 and 1 in his first three years here. He got a contract extension. I wouldn't expect anything less for Chizik. If he did leave on his on accord, he writes off ever becoming a headcoach unless he falls into a situation like Wayne Morgan did.
Take a breath Cyclone fans. This season's almost over and we have a TON of experience coming back next year. What we lose on defense is no great loss as you could tell by the arm tackling against MO.

There have been quite a number of posts that Chizik has upgraded the talent level. In addition, there are quite a number of posts that the talent level has not reached the point to where it is comparable to a mid-major program.

If we have upgraded the talent level from what it was under McCarney, how on earth did McCarney win any Big 12 games?

By 'stick around for 5 years and build the program up' do you mean back up to where it was before Pollard arrived, or better than that? Because either way, as long as Pollard is here, he pretty much can't fire Chizik. Like others have said, he will probably be here for 5 years no matter what.

You can say what you feel about Pollard, but big money supporters of Iowa State athletics love him and they also love Chizik. Watch the papers for a financial announcement coming soon to a Jack Trice Stadium near you.

I think a different question should be asked. How high will the heat be turned up on Chizik next year?
Low: Continue to work hard,we have faith in you. Dan McCarney
Medium Low: Improve and win a few more games
Medium: Get at least a .500 record
Medium High: Go to a decent bowl, not Shreveport or Houston
High: Major improvement or you'll get Ron Princed

No. There won't be any heat at all. He's making progress, and we can see it.

I voted "leaves by choice" because I think he will eventually leave by some means, but after he has righted the ship and such. I hope he rights the ship and stays till he retires (still by choice) :).

why is this conversation continuing. We all know he is not going anywhere. Lets just hope that next year is better.
