What Do You Hate About Our State?

@taylortomtt

When you have probably the best land in the U.S., of coarse the land is going to be expensive and the maximum amount of it will be used as farm land.

This...I love the people who always complain every time ESPN shows a combine in the field during football season or the people who were ragging mad about the Iowa Chops because they think its a negative portrayal of Iowa being nothing but agriculture. Yes, there is more to Iowa, but agriculture is a huge part of this state, and for some reason a lot of people in this State are embarrassed by that.

I don't really mind that they show agriculture pictures from the area. It does bother me when they find the oldest, ugliest looking farm equipment/barn/truck/ect for the shot. How about they show a combine worth a half-mil, nice looking farm, etc.

As a displaced Iowan, I hate the fact that non-midwesterners don't know the difference between Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, and Idaho. Did everyone fail the 4th grade, or what?

@TXCylcones

The county i grew up in had a high power rifle season some years.

Seriously? What decade, and what county? I didn't realize that the state allowed these rules on a county by county basis. I left the state in '95 and while I enjoyed bow hunting deer for a number of years there are times a rifle season would have been awesome. Easy, but awesome.

Yes, what ISUAgronomist said. I grew up in Union county. (one in the bottom two rows) I have a friend whose dad took an AK-47 deer hunting. Looks like it was going on this year. I am not sure if they have it every year or not.

I don't think people are necessarily embarrassed... They just feel like they want others outside of Iowa to know that Iowa isn't just cornfields next to bean fields next to more cornfields
Wait - there are beans?

I would have thought two Iowa State vanity plates would be a good thing...

Sure, but in general I think they look out of place on the front ends of most newer cars. They cause more damage to painted rear bumpers during simple rear-ends. Some of the brackets cause damage to front bumpers or worse require drilling into the bumper to mount. Could cut the cost of license plates to the state in half (savings wouldn't likely be passed on to tax-payers though).

Also, the lack of tuition reciprocity with any other state....its almost as if the state of Iowa doesn't want its students to look outside the state for its educational pursuits...A way to keep its students in-state for college...:shocked:
