We're ranked, boys. CFP #24

The Big 10, Big 12, and PAC shut out

Perfect way to light a fire on playoff expansion

Agree. Would be great to have it open the door to a better system. Still though, I think 16 would be a mistake, due to Bowl games/season still having solid meaning.

Honestly, it should be 8 teams vying for the National Title. Play "playoff" games the weekend right after the conference championship week. Top 4 teams have home games. The losers of the playoff games match up in respective bowl games to finish out their year (celebrating their seasons just like everyone else). Winners meet in the Bowls just like they have been. Should be a simple concept.

8 teams = 5 Power Five Conference Champions + 3 wild cards. (Obviously including ND or BYU if they are ranked in the top 8, etc...)

Also, the SEC would need to play 9 conference games though. Every Power 5 should be playing 9 conference games.

Michigan is #5. Notre Dame is #4 beat them without their QB and RB. Pretty soundly really. Notre Dame is undefeated. LSU has a loss and beat Georgia, who is ranked lower than Michigan. LSU is #3. Makes total sense to me.

Correct. After the CFP rankings come out, they are the only ones that matter going forward.
CFP......must mean Cyclone Fantatic Podcast......Jared, Chris and the crew are really busy...how do they find time for this?

This all makes too much sense though.. so it’ll never happen.

Cool!

Why do they do 25 spots for this poll? Wouldn't it make sense just to have a top ten, or is it all just for drama?

They consider "quality wins" in their "How do we get Ohio State in to this thing" metrics and the teams in the 16-25 range are all about giving or taking away quality wins from the top teams.

True chaos would be if ND and Clemson win out and Georgia/Kentucky beats Bama in the SEC championship game.

You'd have...
1.) Clemson
2.) ND
3.) Georgia/Kentucky
4.) Alabama

Oh man, I actually hope that happens now.

6 or 8 teams would be good. 16 would be a joke, imho.

I want ND to get in specifically for that reason -- it'll fire up the expansion talks if more conferences get left out.

It couldn't hurt, but the B1G and Pac both got left out last year, and that didn't seem to drive much on the topic. In the four years of the playoff, the B12 and Pac have missed twice while the B1G has missed once. The ACC and SEC have never missed.

The CFP would love to have Bama, Clemson, ND and OSU. In fact, they would love to have 3 of those teams every year with Clemson being included because of recency bias. When Clemson isn't quite this good, they would love for the 4th team to be Texas or USC.

The B1G getting left out back to back years would be pretty significant though.

Honestly, I don't think anyone gets within 14 points of Bama this year. That combination of offense and defense makes the playoffs feel like a technicality.

As of today, there are only 2 week 12 games that feature CFP top 25 teams.
24 ISU vs 17 Texas and
19 Syracuse vs 4 Notre Dame

I would love for Syracuse to drop out making the only Top 25 game or game of the week unavailable to most of the country to emphasize how stupid the LHN is.

I pretty much agree with all of this. All P5 conferences should play 9 conference games (looking at you SEC).

Expand playoff to top 8. P5 champions + Best G5 team get auto bids. 2 wild card selections (ND has to make this selection to participate). The CFP committee's job is selecting the best G5 and the 2 wild cards, plus seeding.

Top ranked teams get home game in mid-December weekend. Losers of those four get NY6 games. Winning four go on to CFP just like now. Just imagine the $$$$.

If B1G gets shut out for second year in a row, this will be immediately on the table.

Although for selfish reasons, kind of nice seeing the Pac12 consistently get screwed, keeping that conference weak for a potential poaching.
