"we should have run it more"

I agree with this...

Passing in this game was actually a good decision. We were not developing any holes for the running backs to go through. Plus they were really thin in the secondary and had an extra guy in the box to account for our running game.

T-Tech we didn't run it enough and averaged around 9 yards per carry. That is a prime example of "We should of ran it more". Not the TCU game.

That's what I thought, too, until the first quarter played out. But when a friend texted me, "Who is this IA State team??", I could only respond with, "Don't worry I'm sure it's about to get out of hand."

And it did. Should have made the bet... lol.

Yup. If he was talking running with the Lanning "package" maybe but just running more obviously wasn't the answer. Or if you do run how about using that package and not a big pitchout to your RB in the red zone.

Now again, Rhoads just figured out he SHOULD have run it more against TCU.

Yes, exactly. Here we needed to throw downfield as much as we could. Good things happened when we did. No idea what Paul is talking about.
 
We have one hope (and it's a small one) of beating teams like TCU and Baylor. We have to sit on the ball. I'm talking possession time of 45 mins to 15. Only way to do it is by the run.
We can't engage in a track meet style game with these teams.
Sit on it and pray for a few turnovers. Only chance they have.

I don't think they should have ran it more, but I do wish they had used Thomas more. With that said I really don't get the inability to make in game adjustments. That used to be a strength of Wally and Mangino.
 
I think we ran more then we should have.but maybe I'm just weird. We did good passing the ball, and trying to force obvious running situations and getting stuffed killed momentum. We run successfully after we pass well. We don't have a team that can do it the other way around.
 
when we run zone read, Sam never keeps the ball. Even when the DE crashes in he hands it off. I don't know if the staff instructed him not to run for some reason but it is very aggravating to watch a zone read play but yet they ignore the read. Why? TCU can cheat on the play and go after the tailback every time.

Yeah he hasn't kept the ball on the zone read much at all this year. Even when is was obvious it wasn't going anywhere and him running would of been the correct call.

Sam kept the ball one time in the game in the fourth quarter when the game was out of hand. He was stopped almost right away.We are protecting the health of Sam so we can use him against Baylor.

We could have thrown it predominately but still tried to eat clock. K-State ran the play clock down routinely and kept it close vs TCU. I didn't see us milking the play clock much at all. Just one of the little things this staff can't seem to figure out.
 
Why try and play TCU's game? I don't even know why ISU tries to play the same way as Baylor, TCU or Texas Tech.

I haven't really even seen us run the zone read when SR is in the game. We run delayed hand offs but it's not a read.
