We got any shot at this kid?

The kid is a sophomore to-be. Probably 14 or 15 years old. I know he's Mad Fran's kid, but do we really have to tear him down? Again, he's ~15 years old. At least wait 3 years to trash the kid.

By then Fran will be losing players to transfer right and left and finishing seasons with no push and players playing with no emotion. Fran will be approaching the hot seat. Suddenly Bradley University will need a coach and pull him away. The kid, with an offer from UNI will follow Dad there and be an All-American while Iowa will hire B.J. Armstrong as their coach and built a powerhouse team over the next 4 years, largely by bringing in transfers.

Hawkeye fans will praise the new coach and his unorthodox but effective methods and the E. Iowa sportswriters will discuss with awe this revolutionary new way to built a competitive team - having never seen anything like it ever before.

If Fran truly loves his kid, than he will send him to play for a real coach in Fred Hoiberg who can develop his skills.

Seriously though, it will be fun to watch this kid develop over the next couple years. It's always good to see top talent emerge from Iowa.

the dude grew up in a gym and probably never had a part-time job in his life. He should be good....he doesn't do anything else

So much fail, does Fred not let his kids also in the gym? Will Freds kids get part time jobs ?

" Hey dad I know you make 3 million a year but can I borrow the Bentley to get to my job at BK? I promise I will do my homework at 9 PM after my shift"

"Sure son, just put a few bucks of gas in the tank on your way home, I am trying to teach you responsibility.."

This ranking is a complete joke. He is not even close to being the best player on his own team. I am not saying that he is not good because he is, but he simply is not athletic enough to be anywhere near the top 100 much less top 25. Fran has some connections is all I can say.

No, but I would bet we have a shot at the shooting guard from Apple Valley, MN

How many guys on his own team are in the same recruiting class?

Someone doesn't understand how recruiting rankings work.

Same.

Got to give him credit as he was just a freshman. He did play solid the one game I saw but top 25 in the country? I would have never guessed that but I am no recruiting guru.

I went to Iowa City West and have seen a lot of D-1 basketball players come through Bergman's system. I can't recall him ever playing a freshman (may be wrong) and seldom sophmores and they were loaded this year. He is certainly a high level d-1 prospect right now and odds are he will continue to be. Will he end up top 25? Who knows so many things change and whether it translates to the college game is impossible to project at this point. During Wests dominate football years I watched 3 freshman get brought up 2 ended up being awesome High school players one breaking the all time rushing record in 4a. One my little brother never played after his sophmores year after he tore his acl. None of them ended up elite or even played at bcs schools. All were prospects though. A lot can happen but kid looks like a solid recruit for Fran right now and good for Iowa.

Its all name recognition at that point. He'll end up around 130-150 and at a Valley school (or Iowa of course). His skill set is very good, but he doesn't have the explosion and athleticism of an elite recruit. He'll be 3 Star when all is said and done.

Still, he's very good.

That sounded like Doug McD's scouting report coming out of high school. Look how that one ended.

He was also a freshman in high school. The fact that he was playing speaks volumes. Not defending a hokeye, defending high school basketball.

The word on the AAU circuit was that Fran required a guarantee that he would start on varsity as a freshman, IC West initially was not willing to do that so they enrolled him at CR Xavier who would. Right before school started IC West relented. This may all be BS but heard the same story from multiple sources in the area.

I like this, let's roll with it.

Saw every game of the 2014 State Tourn. The kid played very well, especially for a Freshman. It was obvious he knows how the game is to be played and unlike his dad, displayed poise and composure. No, I am not a Squak. Just appreciate seeing a kid play well. He'll play where ever daddy is coaching.

Another thing from the AAU circuit is that there is a kid from the KC area, Mitchell Ballock, a 6'6" guard, is the REAL DEAL. Already reportedly has offers from Creighton and Wichita State and a lot of interest from KU. Saw him dunk in games as a 7th grader. Did not see CFH play at that age but would guess they have similar games. Was surprised to not see him on the list of top 25 talent. Plays up for the Run GMC 2016 team out of KC.

Another thing to consider...considering this has lived with Fran for 15 years...he knows the real Fran, not the nice, pleasant, "recruiting" Fran...so he might not want to play for him, and might want to play for a "player's coach" like CFH.

It certainly would be intriguing for him to come to ISU.

I'm guessing that he got ranked because the sportswriters don't want to miss predicting another great coach's son from Iowa. It is like the weather forecasts that predict huge snow because they don't want to be the guy who missed the big storm.

His biggest problem at EIU will be the memory of Little Lick.

I wonder if Fran would spend a scholarship on him or just foot the bill like McD did.
