WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

All four newbies lose their Big 12 openers, with only Houston losing by single digits.
Speaking of Houston and Texas Tech, a strange thing happened in that game. With 7 seconds left at the very end of the 3rd quarter TTU subbed in Saga Ukkonen and Rhyle McKinney, apparently for the sole purpose of picking up 3 fouls in 3 seconds. They were then subbed out when the quarter ended, having played a combined total of 12 seconds in the entire game.

West Virginia really put the hurting in Kansas. Not sure if Kansas had an off game or WVU had an on game. We play both very soon so I guess we’ll find out.

Watched the game on demand in ESPN app, WV plays tough defense. Took the lead early with full court press and never seemed to get under double digit after. KU had the advantage with their 6’6” post but she has never shown me that she is a dominate center to be the focus of their offense.

Welcome to the Big 12. :)

Adding the better teams next year. These four will probably finish at the bottom of the league. Equal to the bottom of a couple of other P6 leagues but worse than most. Bottom of ACC and Big East also suck. Going to be hard for them to climb out of that basement with a dozen teams above them next year.

Unranked teams but going to take a look at Maryland at Nebraska at 1:30. BTN network.

Edit: Pretty decent viewing. Huskers hung on to win 87-81. Good bounce back after losing to Kansas in their last game.

Random Big 12 stat. Sedona Prince is averaging 21.3 points and 10.6 rebounds for TCU. Arizona transfer Madison Conner of TCU is leading the Big 12 in scoring at 22.4 and shooting 43% from three. She averaged 5.8 at Arizona. That's some HUGE transfer impacts for TCU.

I’m just not impressed with any of their wins.

My head was trying to wrap itself around Nebraska beating Maryland. How far the Terps have fallen this year. Haven’t dug into why. Nebraska has losses to TCU and KU. I’m still not impressed with TCU, but KU? Outside of a couple of teams has the Big Ten fallen that much? Even Minnesota's best win is likely against Drake. Michigan's only quality win is against Ohio State who may be a poser as well. Interesting stuff.

I watched the game. Nebraska looked pretty good. It's a good win for them as Maryland has owned them for years. Their freshman forward Natalie Potts had 13 rebounds, 7 being offensive to go with 17 points. She was the difference in the game along with Makowskis who had a double-double of 20/10. They are one of the Big Ten teams that I sort of keep track off along with my local Gophers.

I get the Huskers loss to TCU in one of the turkey tournaments more than the clunker at Kansas as I'd attribute part of the TCU win to Sedona Prince for holding Markoski to 5-16 shooting.

Maryland will be hanging around the midwest to play at Minnesota Wednesday night. Half tempted to pop over for the game.

My opinion only, I don't think the Big Ten is all that strong this year. I feel like Indiana and Ohio State are good teams, but neither team jumps off the page right now. I see Iowa winning the regular season title.

Two or three games coming up I'd be interested in watching
  • Michigan State at #4 Iowa Tuesday 7 pm Peacock
  • Maryland at Gophers Wednesday 7 pm B1G+
  • #23 TCU at #6 Baylor Wednesday 7 pm ESPN+

And, of course, two of those are the same time slot as ISU/Kansas. Maybe replay for those.

Well, New Year Day and I didn't think new polls would come out but they did. Not much change, Baylor and Texas essentially exchanged poll spots.

#6 Baylor moved up
#10 Texas moved down.
#11 Kansas State stayed put
#23 TCU
#24 West Virginia

Nobody in the others receiving votes.
