***WBB: 2024 Recruiting Thread***

Mary Kate King is still a walk-on, isn't she?

I think for WBB the scholarship limit and the roster limit is the same, 15, so it doesn't matter much. I do think she is, or was, put on scholarship.

Isn't MBB 15 roster but 13 maximum for scholarship?

Don't think there is a roster limit, just a scholarship limit of 13 for MBB and 15 for WBB.

I think the roster limit is based on #'s needed for practice and what a coach is comfortable. Having 3 groups of 5 might be the practical limit for a lot of coaches.

In another thread someone said teams are limited to 4 walk-on players. I know they have "gray shirt", etc. but those don't get the benefits that walk-ons get.

ESPN just came out with a current ranking of school classes for 2024. No Big 12 teams in the top ten. Iowa's class, similar IMHO to our 2023 class, comes in at #8.

They also have a list of uncommitted top players. Only a few Big 12 schools in the running for the top recruits. Here's the list of remaining Top 100 Big 12 school still in the hunt for:

3. Jaloni Cambridge (Ohio State, Florida, LSU, Baylor, Louisville)
19. Arianna Roberson (UConn, Duke, Utah, USC)

28. Britt Prince (Indiana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Iowa State, Creighton)
32. Me'Arah O'Neal, announcing Nov. 12 (Tennessee, Arizona State, Florida, Kentucky, Cal, LSU, Georgia Tech)
53. Vivian Iwuchukwu (Texas A&M, Florida, Arizona, USC, Georgia, USC)
73. Trinity Turner (Mississippi State, Georgia, UCF, Arizona State)
76. Zahra King, announcing Nov. 3 (Cal, UCF, Penn State, Wisconsin, Harvard, Marquette)
96. Destiny Agubata (Georgetown, Cal, West Virginia)

Early signing week for a national letter of intent starts November 8th. Wonder if Prince will do her anticipated November school choice before that?

Prince has been displaced from a higher spot on ESPN vs. other lists where at #28 she seems a lesser among the really elite players.

I'll take a #28!

ESPN's #28 for 2022, Mara Braun, made the Big Ten all-freshman team and averaged 15.6 pts/game last year.
Me too, very much so. There were early rankings having her just out of the top ten which is where Donarski was ranked.

Don't know how much ISU was really in the running but didn't see her picking the Huskers. She had better offers than NU in my opinion. Huskers just haven't seemed to be able to do much after the Connie Yori resignation and the competition to get to the top half of the Big Ten will be even more intense with the schools they are adding. Only two NCAA appearances in last seven years under Amy Williams.

So, on to Phase II of the recruiting for class of 2024, the portal in March 2024!

Will we be looking for a transfer PG?
Agreed on the portal. I don't think any remaining players on my current list are coming to ISU.

The good thing about the portal is we'll know who is returning and who is leaving, and also have a better grasp of what roles this year's newcomers can be expected to take in the future.

Staying home does not surprise me and was my second guess as to what Prince's choice would be. A big name (maybe Baylor) was my first guess.

You may see this more seeing Iowa's luck keeping what's her name in the state of Iowa. "Why not make Nebraska great?" Prince may ask. Well, it might be tough to replicate that, and good luck with it.

It stinks but the reality is that our guards may not be on the level of our bigs and that is a shame. Assist machines (great ball handlers like Em, who may be out to pasture) are hard to develop and not easy to recruit.
