Or have all the old fogeys swap there tickets with the current members of the student section. than its fixed

:confused:A lot of those "old fogeys", as you call them, were there cheering on Cyclone teams, and helped create the legend that is "Hilton Magic", and yes, sadly that's all it is right now, a legend. Hilton used to rock so hard you couldn't hear the person right next to you. We didn't wait for the players to get us going. At times, you couldn't even hear the player intros, it was so loud!!

:SLEEP:A bunch of kids dressing weird and mugging for the TV cameras doesn't really do much to inspire the players. Screaming your *** off during scoring droughts and time outs is what keeps the atmosphere at a fever pitch. Teams used to dread coming to Hilton because of the home court advantage. Now, it's just another road game.

:yes:It can, and will, get back to where it was, but don't bad-mouth the fans that helped create the environment and have been there thru the good and the bad, and still provide ISU athletics with both financial and vocal support.

:skeptical:If it weren't for the "good ol' days", the Mayor may have ended up at Nebraska. Those "old fogies", are a big part of recruiting, too.

:wideeyed:If you're going to point fingers, look in the mirror. Pay attention to the game, and what's going on, not which cameraman is closing in on your section.

The only way CA affects our game experience is the shirt that we wear, and the direction we move our arms during a free throw. It may have been worse in past years, but it's really not a big deal now.
I don't think there would be any real difference between the current CA and a general admission student section, but I do think the solid color (cardinal or gold) looks pretty good.

Can you answer a few questions for me then?

If there is no "real difference between the current CA and general admission student section", what is the actual PURPOSE of CA? Is CA there to IMPROVE the atmosphere over a standard GA student section? You said that you "think the solid color (shirts) look pretty good". Is that watcha got?

I have yet to see a CA supporter offer the ACTUAL REASON that CA was formed in lieu of the GA student section. WHY?

It seems that the people who like CA basically defend it by saying that "it's not worse than Hilton was before CA..."

STILL no real BENEFIT has been pointed out...

If the ONLY benefit anybody gets out of CA is the leadership comittee getting resume stuffers, something is wrong.

What say you CA members?

I'm not claiming it is of great benefit. Not one person has done so, and I'm not sure what you are getting this from. The thread was started because people seriously thought it was some sort of detriment to the atmosphere in Hilton. Those of us who are "defending" CA are simply trying to figure out why people hated it so much. Like I said, I think a general student section would be exactly the same as CA, and I wouldn't be upset if CA was changed to that; however CA is not inhibiting "Hilton Magic" like so many choose to believe.

I think most agree with you here. The ONLY benefit I can think of is uniform shirt color.

I can't speak for everyone here, but this is my opinion and what I think a large majority of current CA members feel: We don't care if CA exists or if it doesn't. My main point is that CA is NOT the reason Hilton Magic is gone.

Take away CA, we don't care. Just please don't think that CA is the root of the problem.

This post is a little hypocritical. Quite frankly I'm sick of the argument, but I'll explain this first. You say don't bad mouth the fans that made it "Magical", which is fine and understandable. However the rest of your post you bad mouth the students who you want to bring back the magic. How about we all stop pointing fingers at each other and support the team as ONE. Screw whether your a stupid student trying to get camera time or whether your the old fogie sitting in your seat. We're all Cyclones and we're all trying to bring back the magic. IMO the student section should be on the side just like Duke, Gonzaga and many other basketball schools. This shouldn't be an issue. Let's end it.

Totally agree.

CA is NOT the problem. Bad basketball is.

I also believe that Hilton Magic is not gone. I was a student from '90 to '93, and then again from '02 to '03. I've seen some good basketball and some really bad basketball.

People remember the good and tend to forget the bad. YouTube clips of a select few minutes of home games over 10+ years is kind of funny. That's the exception and not the rule. Selective memory...

Anyhoo... when the team wins, people cheer. Same thing in football. Nothing is more demoralizing than screaming like an idiot during a football game on third down, only to see the team give up a first down 8 out of 10 times. After awhile, you just sort of accept the inevitable. When the BBall team sacks up and makes some freethrows or rebounds the BBall, the crowd will be alive, CA or no CA.

Hilton Magic isn't dead...

Just try to think of anything good that happened to men's ball since the formation of cyclone alley. I can't, but maybe that's just the dementia setting in. Destroy it.

The thing is, no one is actually blaming the student body for anything. CA is entirely separate, and rightfully so. There are a select few in CA that are considered the "governing body" of CA that are the ones that make decisions. Why there is a group dedicated to make decisions for a student section in a college is beyond me, and a lot of others.
