Vikings-Bears at the UNI-Dome? (link)

Am I missing something? Why don't they play it at the Gopher's stadium???

article says the game was scheduled to be in a dome and should be played as so for fairness. Outdoor game would likely benefit the bears more than the vikings

What an awful 'article' if you want to call it that. The game will be played in MN barring major hurdles that can't be cleared.

No way they even consider a 16,000 seat stadium, they are already doing everything they can to get the Dome ready so they don't have to play in the 50,000 seat TCF Bank. They would have played it there last week but the stadium was in hibernation mode and would take a few days to prepare for a game.

It's all about the Benjamins. Look for the Vikings to seek retribution from the company that manages the Dome for any lost revenues for last week and this upcoming week.

Right. I mean think of how ridiculous it is to even float that idea. Iowa or ISU would NEVER play at the UNI Dome. But someone thinks the Vikings and Bears would consider playing there? The thought is just preposterous.

This is one effect of our new blog culture. In the old days this probably never would have gotten out because the writer would have thought better of it before the paper came out the next day. Nowadays, everything is instant. Everyone's got diarrhea of the mouth. Or keyboard.

I don't think Iowa or ISU CAN play at the Dome. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that FBS had to be played in stadiums of a certain capacity, and the UNI-Dome fell below it.

Besides how ******* embarassing it would be.

No. UNI could never move up to I-A (I refuse to use this new FBS/FCS naming convention whatever the hell it is) because the dome isn't large enough. But they could host I-A teams there if they wanted.

Other options:

1) TCF Bank
Pros: Close to downtown, new stadium with amenities
Cons: Only seats 50,000 people, outdoor stadium and it'll be snowy/cold that day, may not be able to sell beer? I don't recall if they had alcohol when I went for the Iowa-Minnesota game.

2) Chicago
Pros: NFL stadium
Cons: Switches the home-away teams, and Chicago already hosted Minnesota earlier this season

3) Nearby neutral NFL stadium (Indianapolis, Detroit, Green Bay?!, etc)
Pros: NFL stadiums. Some are domes.
Cons: Getting fans to show up, travel (again, it's supposed to be around the time more snowstorms hit the Midwest, so travel can be restricted)

4) Nearby college stadiums (Kinnick, Camp Randall etc etc)
Pros: Some are larger stadiums, capable of fitting many fans
Cons: Not built for hosting NFL games, most would be shut down for the winter off-season, travel/housing restrictions, getting fans out there

My thinking is that if they can't get the Metrodome ready, they'll have to use TCF Bank. The biggest issue they'll have with that (other than whether the U can get the place ready) is dealing with something like 10-15k fewer seats than they would utilize at the Dome.

EDIT: Wait, the UNI-Dome only holds 16k? No way that would happen then.

They could play this game anywhere there is a field that meets requirements for the game. The UNI-dome could host anything from Pop Warner to the Superbowl. It never would unless about 1,000 other stadiums were magically destroyed, but that's just because of location and size, not physical ability to host the game.
