Victory song?

I thought Smoke on the Water blew. And I like the song, but it just didn't work there. Our god awful sound system doesn't help anything in that department either.

If you could get the timing right Cochise would work amazing for our current intro. Show them walking from the locker room during the slow beginning and then run out once the guitars hit. It would be perfect.

I thought just playing the loop of the Smoke bass line got really repetitive. I did like showing the video of them walking out of the Jake though.

I just thought it was unique. We have got to find something and stick with it. So far the only thing that has stuck is that lame *** Sweet Caroline.

We want to build traditions but you can't really do that when you change everything from year to year. There will be new videos etc.... but we need to find a unique song or songs to go with the video and stick to it. Traditions are a way of building an identity for the program really. It's not surprising that we don't really have an identity when we change everything on a year to year basis.

I hate to say it but we have two examples set by teams we don't care for.... Iowa and Nebraska. Nebraska has done the Tunnel walk for years to the same tune and Iowa has been coming down the tunnel to Back in Black for awhile now. They have found something that works. When I hear Back in Black the first thing that pops into my head is the hawks. Same with the tune that Nebraska uses. It has been branded and basically become an identifying mark for their respective programs. It is about time that we find ours and most importantly KEEP IT!!

The bass line just isn't long enough to have it on continual loop. I don't mind the song, but think we could find something a little better.

But if we keep changing it, it won't ever become a tradition.

I found both the Tunnel Walk and Back in Black to have been really underwhelming in person, at least compared to what they're built up to be. I suppose with Iowa it's because they're standing there in the corner so you know they're out on the field, and with Nebraska, it was cool, just not the coolest introduction ever created.

Their feelings about Texas totally cross the line from "rivalry" to "total obsession". I've never seen a fan base as obsessed with their rivals as A&M is with Texas. Still, it's a great time, and the best fan base I've been around. Love A&M.

Isn't it OU that uses the inverted hook 'em horns gang sign? I know I have seen that sign flashed at Jack Trice and I thought WTF? Texas has nothing to do with this game. You are obsessed!

"I'm not sure that is germane to the situation."
"The god damn Germans got nothing to do with it!!!"

While I agree with your critique it is something that they have chosen and stuck with. We can't even do that.

While we are on songs to be played on gameday, I have always thought our "third down stop" music has always sucked. It is some sort of "gladiator" music that about 50+ other schools already play. It's boring and nobody really gets into it. Real "traditional" there band director.

I think we need something that relates to a cyclone. Something that is humerous as well, but makes you think that when that song is played....ISU has just stopped someone, thus making it real cool. A good example of this is Michigan State. They play the "Dudley Do Right" song from The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. It always looks/sounds cool on TV...and really seems to get the crowd going on a punt situation. And most of all, they are the only school that plays that song....and it is original.

With all of this being said, I have brought this up to many Clone fans and they agree. That gladiator/random stop music really sucks....plus a ton of schools already play it. Now just give this some thought. I would love the Wicked Witch of the West Music played from the Wizard of Oz. Just a little portion of it right after we stop an opponet on third down....forcing a punt. Think of that music....it involves a Tornado....and has a chilling sound....but after time it would be real unique....since we are the Cyclones....and nobody else in the country currently plays that song.

I even like it in the movie The Heartbreak Kid with Ben Stiller....his buddy has it as his ringtone for when his wife is calling. Ha. Chilling indeed.

Just something to think about as we look for some better traditions for our Alma Mater.

I like it.

And I also think that right after Kickoff is week too. The entire crowd...right after the kick needs to scream/yell: CY - CLONES! Right now we all chant the "ohhh" then....nothing. It is boring. This needs to be changed as well.

Examples:

Notre Dame - "Ohhhhh....... I - RISH!" Sounds awesome.

Oklahoma - "Ohhhhhhhh....... U!" Pretty cool.

Why can't we train ourselves to say CY - CLONES! Put it up on the damn video board if it is tough for people at first.

I like this too. It could also be pretty awesome if it was timed well for everyone to yell Cyclone right after the kicker booms it and then yell Power right as one of our kick coverage guys lays out the return man. That is something that could get the coverage teams jacked up to get down there and really hammer the return man.

So, this is something the band plays? Not trying to start any arguments here, but I'm having a heck of a time coming up with what song you're thinking of...

Maybe any further description? Granted, hard to describe an instrumental piece... does it start with the drumline alone? Or Is it really short?

Other band people, maybe help me out here?

Agreed. And actually the best way to do it would probably be in the same vein that people were taught the band's movements for Whatcha Gonna Do? (or, Cyclone Aerobics, as Jeff Johnson calls it). At an event, teach a whole bunch of students about it, and then it'll spread. But I agree, that would be cool.

The group of trumpets I'm in yells "This... Is.. Myyyyy... BOOMSTICK".. but that's another story.

Am I the only person that hates "Cyclone Aerobics"? It always looks ridiculously tacky. And slightly dangerous to do intoxicated.

99% sure he's talking about throwdown, which to be fair, IS pretty generic.

I thought that might be the case... I LOVE the full version of Throwdown, but I suppose our small cut can get old after a little while.

What we don't play much anymore (ever since the football team called out the band for playing while they were on offense) is our offensive 3rd down cheer. That one is fun.

It's tradition. The point of this thread is to invoke tradition so why would we take away something traditional?
