When the WW of the West song is playing....the video board could have that sceen in the movie with the tornado.....then the opposing team's logo could get gobbled up by it. That would be cool.

Again, play the Wicked Witch Music after a third down stop. Could you please pass that along? It is a great idea.....and original. We are cyclones....and that would be awesome to hear.
I Got Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks. This seems like a good victory song.
I like The Bells of Iowa State. I enjoy it being the last song after BB games. It isn't a hoot and holler song so I wouldn't want it to start the fourth quarter of a FB game, but I think it is a true ISU classic. It does elicit emotion in many who are life-long Staters.
Thanks, Jim Wilson!
It's interesting, my own reaction to "Bells." I find it a bit of a snorer right before the game. But after a win it has the potential to be an amazing finish. I'm pretty sure they do play it (correct me if I'm wrong, band members), but 3/4 of the stadium is already gone by then. If everyone stayed and sang it after a victory it'd really have some impact.
That one actually crossed my mind. A good choice, IMO.
And I HATE "popular" country, but this is simply a classic, fun song, that everyone knows.
True and Valiant like the Bells of Iowa State
I understand how a Bell can be "true", but how the hell could a bell be "valiant"?
"Valiant" adj. - posessing or acting with bravery or boldness : courageous; marked by, exhibiting, or carried out with courage or determination
When I grow up, I want to be as brave as a bell.
VMBPlayer - Can you make sure that the band is not playing anytime even close to when our offense is in formation. It doesn't happen real often but it shouldn't ever happen.
Let's review...
Green hills, for thy throne
Green hills? In Iowa? Where? ...or are we talking about the Green Hills Retirement Community in Ames?
...and for crown a golden melody...
Oh boy...guess a real gold crown would require people to donate to the AD. Let's stick with the melody.
...ringing in the hearts of all who bring thee love and loyalty
ALL? That's a pretty strong statment - what proportion of ISU fans even know the words? 10-20% ?
How many of those because they're on the scoreboard while it plays?
DEAR ALMA MATER
The three words everyone knows.
...make our spirits great...
Fight Song does it better.

I WISH more people besides the band and the old timers knew the words to Bells. It's a beautiful song.Well, yeah, i understand it's not going away. I just don't like it. It's like i know the bells of iowa state aren't going away either, even though it sucks.. you know it blows when people like a song you don't even know the words to better than it.
Oh Al. :frown: :cry:I totally agree that Bells sucks. I love Iowa State University passionately, but that song arouses no kind of emotion or feeling in me whatsoever. I try to time my entrance into the stadium to be just after they play Bells.
And you fail me too, superfan? :cry:I LOVE the idea of the Wicked Witch music after a 3rd Down stop. Band folk - get on that.
I like Cyclone Aerobics, as well, just because it's organized. There is nothing tackier than waving the wheat. Nothing.
Count me in the crowd that's not impressed with Bells. It always seemed nonsensical to me. Let's review...

Awesome idea, I think we need a new tradition. I vote for Thank God I'm a country boy.I was talking about this with some guys, and thought CF would be a good place to get some more input/possibly get the ball rolling.
ISU is admittedly lacking in game day traditions. One thing I've always loved is when schools have a victory song like Alabama/"Sweet Home Alabama", West Virginia/"Country Roads Take me Home", Tennessee/"Rocky Top" and even (yes I admit I'm jealous as hell of this) Iowa/"In Heaven There is no Beer".
We've started doing the "Sweet Caroline" thing, but I think it's kind of fad. A lot of other schools do it, and it's right up there with "Livin' on a Prayer" as a cheesy song it's become cool/funny to like over recent years.
I know it's probably a bit of a cheesy song, but I think it's a great fit for ISU, given the school's ag programs and the fact that a lot of students/alumni/fans have connections to rural Iowa, but I think "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" would be a great ISU victory song. Other songs that guys threw out there were "Roll out the Barrel" (Brewers song) and the official State song of Iowa ("that's where the tall corn grows"). Any thoughts or song suggestions?
While we are on songs to be played on gameday, I have always thought our "third down stop" music has always sucked. It is some sort of "gladiator" music that about 50+ other schools already play. It's boring and nobody really gets into it. Real "traditional" there band director.
I think we need something that relates to a cyclone. Something that is humerous as well, but makes you think that when that song is played....ISU has just stopped someone, thus making it real cool. A good example of this is Michigan State. They play the "Dudley Do Right" song from The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. It always looks/sounds cool on TV...and really seems to get the crowd going on a punt situation. And most of all, they are the only school that plays that song....and it is original.
With all of this being said, I have brought this up to many Clone fans and they agree. That gladiator/random stop music really sucks....plus a ton of schools already play it. Now just give this some thought. I would love the Wicked Witch of the West Music played from the Wizard of Oz. Just a little portion of it right after we stop an opponet on third down....forcing a punt. Think of that music....it involves a Tornado....and has a chilling sound....but after time it would be real unique....since we are the Cyclones....and nobody else in the country currently plays that song.
I even like it in the movie The Heartbreak Kid with Ben Stiller....his buddy has it as his ringtone for when his wife is calling. Ha. Chilling indeed.
Just something to think about as we look for some better traditions for our Alma Mater.
I've always thought "Indestructible" by Disturbed would be an excellent song for the football team to enter with:
YouTube - DISTURBED - INDESTRUCTIBLE (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
You get your obligatory "disaster sirens" at the beginning of the song, and after about the second or third one the music is flat out in your face.
As far as Bells of Iowa State, I love the song - just not at a football game. Sporting events should have music that amps you up and gets you prepared for the game. While Bells of Iowa State gives me fond memories of my time at ISU, it hardly gets me in the mood of yelling at the team to kick some arse. Same with Sweet Caroline. Not only does the song suck, but there's nothing more distracting than singing along to the song about the pedophilia of Caroline Kennedy. I'm not saying steal "Jump Around" from Wisconsin, but at least they have the right idea - they play something that gets the crowd ready to cheer for the team going into the 4th Quarter.
Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight? If it gets Ray Lewis pumped up (enough to stab), it could work for us...
