Upset Hawkeyes

I travel throughout the midwest for work and I can vouch for the fact that "other fanbases" do not think highly of hawkeye fans. My business card lists Iowa City as my office address and sports is often a conversation ice-breaker; I frequently hear unsolicited anti-hawk sentiment prior to revealing that I'm not affiliated! I'd submit that hawks are the second most hated "fanbase" in the midwest, trailing only Notre Dame, and at least Notre Dame alum / fans have something to crow about (program history, school prestige, etc.).
So, as a conversation breaker, you talk about the Hawkeyes in what I'm assuming is Big Ten country, and you expect them to say, "Oh man, we love Iowa! They're so awesome!"

If you are running into people that, without any reason, go off and start spouting, "Iowa fans are all idiots, and they all deserve to die!", doesn't that also reflect on the type of people they might be?

Finally, you can "submit this" as fact all you want - but the point remains that you are using Iowa City as an ice-breaker, even though you're not a Hawkeye fan. I'm also assuming that these "anti-Hawkeye sentiments" you hear are more of a casual, "Oh man, I hate the Hawks!" rather than "They are the worst fans in the world!"

Again, I've gone to plenty of sporting events in Iowa City and spoken to plenty of visiting fans, and never once have I heard anything negative from them about Iowa fans.

This CANNOT be true. SouthernHawk laid out one of his "guarantees"...

My guarantee is that Iowa fans are no worse than any other fanbase. You disagree, and that's fine. I'm just making an argument as to how ridiculous this statement is.

It's equally ridiculous how many times you "guarantee" things. You're southernhawk. That's all. You can basically guarantee nothing. You can "argue" or "debate" about how truly crappy hawk fans are....but you can't guarantee and then call someone else's statement 'ridiculous'. Well, actually you can....but it just makes you look 'ridiculous'.

I can guarantee what I think is fact. If you're so inclined, go ahead and sift through my posts and find one where I guaranteed something that was completely off the wall, or ended up being false.

Anyways, I guarantee this is one of the dumbest arguments ever to have taken place on this board.

I don't have to sift through posts. You laid an egg on that one. That guarantee is off the wall and can be proven to be false.

I guarantee what I think is fact. Not what is fact. Holy cripes people, it's just a freakin' word. I'm not saying what I say is always fact, but then again, I don't "guarantee" everything I say.

And ISU fans claim Iowa fans don't know how to read.

Do Iowa fans not know how to convey what they mean effectively? I would think attending ISU would have helped with that.

"I can guarantee what I think is fact."

That literally means that you guarantee everything you think is a fact. I know you mean that you only make guarantees when you believe something is fact, but thought it was pretty silly of you to word it that way.

probably should have put the :jimlad: in there but you have to realize how absurdly you came across.

I know some fact isu lost to south dakota state in basketball and iowa lost to drake.

fact losing to drake on the road is less embarrassing

losing to south dakota state at home is one of the worst losses in isu history

And your point is?:skeptical: It's not like were shying from the fact that it was an embarassing lost, and were frustrated by it. Please get off your high horse. Drake is the last school of the big 4 to be throwing around that much smack, granted they have been good the least 10 games against the state. But try sustaining any success then one-two year wonders.

P.S. i really have no distaste for Drake or there fans until as of late.

You make too many assumptions! I certainly do NOT use the hawks as a conversation starter. People notice the Iowa City on my business card and they bring it up, assuming I'm a hawk fan. I respond that I'm a proud ISU alum and do not follow the hawks. Frequently, I am then told an unsolicited "boorish hawk fan" story. As most of the midwest is "big ten" affiliated, oftentimes they'll be fans of other big ten schools, but hawk fans also have a less than stellar reputation in Nebraska & Missouri.

So you dismiss my accounts out of hand and rebut with "I've never heard negative comments from rival fans while attending a sporting event in Iowa City." That's funny on a number of different levels...
