Updates on the 16-17 hoops schedule

Joking about what exactly? ISU is 2-6 vs. UNI in the last eight meetings. That's an established fact.

The other part of it is certainly a matter of opinion, I'll admit. If some ISU fans never want to play UNI again in Ames, CF, or Des Moines they are certainly entitled to that opinion as well. My own point is that in recent times wins against an in-state rival, even a "mid-major" have been few and far between for ISU, so a win against them could be (and again, IMO should be) something to be excited about, certainly much more so than a 30-point victory against a overmatched HBCU team, for example.
I don't get any excitement over beating UNI. The entire game consists of worrying about losing so my friends that go to UNI don't have anything to brag about. UNI is tough, but I don't get "abso-freakin-lutely" fired up about beating them.

If ISU is looking for a high-major home game, that almost certainly means a home/away arrangement.

Assuming scheduling works for 16-17, there’s probably a short-list of possible opponents that’d be mutually beneficial (from resume standpoint) and also “realistic” for ISU’s general status.

Who does everyone think are candidates for a feasible wish list? (Assuming it'd fit what's already scheduled).

I also think it’d be OK with a few teams from P5 leagues and a few at top end of “tweener” conferences (Big East, American, A-10, possibly MWC).

Thanks. Glad to get some dates on the calendar.

Not wild about the Iowa game on a Thursday night. Seems like it would be a great weekend game. Put a low major on the weeknight. Oh well, I may make this my first venture to CHA.

P.S. Any news on the time of the UNI football game? Someone on PN has said he has inside info that it will be 7pm, but they are waiting for ISU to announce it.[/QUOTE

See Bold above...
We are playing a mid major on the weeknight....The hoks.

Get used to the game being on thursday, it's that way for at least the next 3 years. TV prefers it that way, for a better time slot... as do I, since my work Christmas party is always on that Friday, so i had missed it the 3 years prior to last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if they continued with Thursday game for the series for a while.

UNI just finalized a home-and-home series with Xavier for 2016 & 2017. If ISU needs to complete their schedule, I'm sure they could call up David Harris and/or Ben Jacobson and get something arranged

I'd go to a UNI game at Hilton in a second. Especially since we get a crappy Drake team in DM.

I don't think I would ever get fired up about beating UNI. Credit to Jacobson for being a great coach that has built a great program that has shown it can compete with anyone in the country not just ISU.

FIFY. I don't get the disrespect for UNI, they have beaten us in CF, at Hilton and in Des Moines. It's not about them caring more, they are just a really solid program, they have been giant killers for years now, its not just ISU that they beat. They expect to beat us every time they play and have proven several times ,they can beat anyone on any given night. UNI is honestly got to be on the most underrated mid major program in the country.

They can beat anyone on any given night, but they've also demonstrated that they can lose to terrible opponents.

I respect the heck out of them, still don't get excited to play them, when we beat them more of a sigh of relief in football or basketball

So, as of now, 7 dates are set:

Nov. 24-27 Advocare Invitational (Florida, Gonzaga, Indiana State, Miami, Quinnipiac, Seton Hall, Stanford)
Dec. 1 Cincinnati
Dec. 8 at Iowa
Dec. 17(?) vs. Drake
Jan. 28 at Vanderbilt (Big 12/SEC)

So, either 5 or 6 slots left to fill (depending on 30 or 31 games). I think Big 4 date would be correct.

I'm curious who ISU draws in quarterfinal of Advocare.

There is only one or two slots left, they just haven't announced the other low majors on our schedule yet. We can schedule one of the other seven teams in the tournament but it's unlikely due to scheduling restraints. So it's really one spot left. This isn't news to anyone following this.

Hell, that can be written about most, if not all, of the Division I basketball programs in the whole country, including ISU.

I guess that's what I meant, those haven't been announced, as opposed to haven't been filled.

UNI lost 3 games to opponents that were in the 230s in the rpi. Going back to my original comment. I give credit to Jacobson for having his team ready to play us. A coach of his stature shouldn't be losing to Loyola at home.

They did it consistently this year. There's a reason they weren't in the tournament without the auto bid

That's certainly fair. My point is that all programs are capable of losing to lesser teams. Two years ago a more talented ISU team than this last season's, IMO, lost games it had no business losing to South Carolina and Texas Tech, and...sigh...UAB.

Who were all significantly better than several teams UNI lost to last year.
