UNI Dual

Colston's win was a lot of fun and it felt good to see Meeks win. That's as positive as I can be. Plenty of negative thoughts but I don't want to say anything I'll regret about any of our guys specifically. I'll just say that between some not improving or even regressing in their time here, lack of aggression and sense of urgency especially when trailing late in matches, far too many stalling calls, giving out riding time like its candy and so on and so on, I've seen enough of KJ. No hard feelings but its time to move on. I want him to succeed just like I wanted McD and Rhoads to but its not going to happen. Watching ISU wrestling should be fun and tonight was depressing.

I agree with you its time to move on, to a new wrestling coach...actually after what I saw last night, its beyond time for a new wrestling coach

Wrestling noob here.

Why is the 1st period 3 minutes and the 2 and 3rd 2 minutes? Is there a reason behind this?

Time keeps getting added at each level. Youth 1-1-1, JH is either 2-1-1, but making change to 1.5-1.5-1.5 this year, HS 2-2-2. So I guess they added a minute for college. You either need to do the first or all of them. Since a wrestler gets choice in 2&3 they need to be equal.

It seems like every year, we always hear about this great recruiting class coming in. Then when they show, it's all about red shirting and needing time. Then after a few years those guys either weren't as good as the hype or they're hurt. KJ reminds me of GMac...just snakebitten. Either its incompetence or bad luck and at some point it doesn't matter which one.

You may have heard this from someone but it is simply not true. I wanted KJ gone 3, 4 & 5 years ago mostly because recruiting was dreadful. These last 2 classes have more talent and rankings than any since Cael was coach. I've been putting my firing demands on the back burner until we could see these guys on the mat. After tonight, I just don't think we can wait any longer. Need to roll the dice and hopefully we can bring in someone to keep most of them. One advantage is that it's not like KJ is going to get a new job somewhere and 'steal' them a la Cael.

Would like to see Kyven involved in some capacity moving forward. Not as a head coach obviously, but his drive, personality and optimism would be welcome as an assistant.

I like KJ and wanted him to succeed, but he has had time.[/QUOTE]

No, JP will not want to spend money on a new wrestling coach, and he won't IMO. When does KJ's contract end? That will be the only time you'd see JP make a move, but even then I'm not sure he would. He flat out does not care how our wrestling program does at all from what I can tell.

How disgusting is it that UNI beats us in football and beats us in wrestling, and now we're going to be paying for their athletic program.

Hope in Matt Campbell is about all this athletic department has to hang it's hat on right now. If he doesn't pan out, we'll have virtually nothing left.... except for cross country.... JP's favorite!

Wrestling isn't high up on JP's list of priorities but he cared enough to put it out there publicly that things need to improve or we'll have to give somebody another shot at it. That to me makes it pretty obvious that barring a miracle finish, we'll be getting a new coach next year.

That bill has no chance of passing.

Talked to a lot of UNI fans this week. They really wanted this win. Still feeling a bit like the infamous "little brother." Wonder if last night's meet will help them feel more confident.

Last time I looked fans don't wrestle. Every year we hear excuses- injuries, youth, weight maintenance, pacing to peak in march. Each match/tournament should be viewed as the biggest match of the year. Very few athletes can pace themselves to turn it on in "big" moments. Bad habits become habitual and contagious!

3 signs it's over:
1) KJ said he answers to a higher power.
2) KJ said they will make changes so they can "connect" with the wrestlers. Really?!
3) KJ continues to address weight management/nutritional issues time & time again.

Because we don't practice it, and we don't recruit it.

I just watched EIU vs PSU, and the difference between that dual and ours couldn't be more stark.

Hall has gotten worse, after beating the same wrestler through time. Weatherspoon just does enough to get by, which will catch him. Downey is still out of shape, and can't finish. There is nothing else. The roster has no talent, and worse, no drive. There are no fans. This will be the worst dual record of any ISU team in history. In year 8, that can't be acceptable, I'm sorry.

I agree...Downey looks terribly out of shape. I think if the ref had been in better position, he might have gotten the pin. And yes, Kyven did a real nice job.

Yeah I thought it was odd that the ref didn't get in better position on that. I was in the crowd on the wrong side so I couldn't tell if the UNI guy was stuck or not but the ref didn't seem to make much effort to find out for himself.

Sure looked stuck to me, and I had a decent view. Gotta keep wrestling after that though. Hope he gets back into shape here soon.
