UCONN vs Iowa

I would say we have about a 1 out of 5 chance beating them in Carver this year.

Short bench, really young team, and tough road test. I have Iowa winning by 8-12 points. We will see if Maui changes my mind.

I think whether or not Lard plays will have a big impact on that. If Lard doesn't play I'm not sure ISU has anyone physical enough to bang down low with Cook and Garza. I have no idea how long Lard is expected to be sidelined though.

Hopefully back for NDSU 12/3. No idea what kind of game shape he'd be.

If Garza keeps hitting 3s that's going to put stress on anyone though. Actually more of a concern than Cook.

I'm to the point now where I don't even worry or care about the ISU vs Iowa game in football or basketball.

I mean obviously you want to win the game just for bragging rights and so you don't have to hear all year long how pathetic ISU is from Hawk fans, but the game itself it turns out doesn't usually mean a whole lot. In football it might matter if you're in the hunt for the National Championship game, but if not, then it really doesn't.

In basketball, no matter what happens, ISU usually always ends up being the better team at the end of the year. And in football, look at this year, Iowa beat us, and we're CLEARLY the better team now, and that's all that matters.

I'm fully anticipating a loss this year in Carver. Iowa always looks best at the start of the year, and then they regress as the season goes on. ISU will not be nearly the team in Carver that they will be by the time the conference season rolls along. We will be without Young for sure, probably Wigginton, and who knows about Lard and Talley? That's 4 possible starters right there.

I'm still cautiously optimistic. If they get through the Wisconsin-MSU-ISU stretch at 2-1 or better (and look good in the loss), I'll buy in completely. But it's definitely refreshing to see them playing great defense. Scoring has rarely been Iowa's problem under Fran.

If Iowa beats ISU, they will probably go 11-0 in the non conference since the only decent teams they play are these last two that they just won. I'm not sure if Fran can even screw that up and still miss the dance, but I'll never count him out.

If Young is back by then, he’s probably ISU’s most physical player.

Luka Garza is so slow he takes 30 minutes to make minute rice.

Luka Garza is so slow that when he goes for a swim he gets barnacles on his body.

Luka Garza is so slow that when he presses the turbo button on NBA Jam, his player just walks normal speed.

Why are you so upset about the early success of Iowa’s basketball team?

surprised nobody was talking about Kreiner's dunk at the end. UCONN guys didn't seem very happy about it.

Iowa had a good showing. Beating Oregon and UConn are good early season wins.

That said I’ve never figured out what identity Fran is going for with his teams. They always have talent and bodies. It just never seems to come together.

This hawk team is no different. They have ball handlers, post players, a stud with Cook but the majority of the team is a bunch of 6th man candidates.

One thing you can bank on... hawk teams always take on Fran’s personality as the season progresses.

I think Fran found a Moneyballesque inefficiency by recruiting the goofiest looking players on the court. Where other coaches dismiss them, Fran sees Ws. I do think relying on zone too much to hide your deficiencies is a problem.
