Uconn V ISU Thoughts

Does UConn have good guards? Because we struggle mightily against guards that can score in the paint.

Post play? Not worried.

our point forward is 6'8" 270 we have 3 guys shooting over 40% from 3(scotty, mcgee, and booker) and 2 others who have made for than 45 threes this year (allen 38% and babb 35%) babb will erase the best perimeter player on the opposing team and melvin ejim is a good post defender/rebounder that does all the little things right. royce will throw spme passes that blow your mind and a few that you will scratch your head to. i think he will make drummond or oriakhi look bad on a coupe of passes in this game. i don't like the fact that drummond and oriakhi are so athletic down low though, that and napier has nba range, which is a concern.

Melvin needs to be on the floor. He got in foul trouble against UT and it killed us on rebounds. When Melvin is in our team plays so much better because he keeps balls alive and stops offensive rebounds for the other team. I thought a few of his fouls were garbage calls against UT. The one thing Melvin could work on is his hands...he drops 5 passes a game at least.

Don't know if it's been said or not, but I'm just gonna cut to the chase.
Yeah, we're certainly going to launch a ridiculous number of 3's at UConn, and if we're hitting 'em... look out. BUT, if you decide to come out and try to guard the 3... look out inside the arc.

Who does Allen match up with in this game? I'm guessing Babb on Lamb, Scotty on Napier, and Allen on...... Looks like Smith (6-8) has been starting for them, but Boatright plays a ton of minutes off the bench. I don't think Scott is quick enough to stay with Napier, but there's no way he can guard Smith when he's in the game either.

I bet we see a little zone.

Anyone think that Babb might be switched to Napier at times? Sounds like Napier is a turnover waiting to happen.

I'd like to see McGee get more minutes and take on Napier. McGee is certainly quick enough and crafty enough to create some turnovers, though he does seem to get into foul trouble now and then.

Agree. The (guard)lineup I would use to to play defense is quite different than the one I would use to play offense.

Defense: Babb, McGee, Bubu
Offense: Babb, Allen, Christopherson

We have yet to really play 40 minutes of good basketball. It seems like there is always a drought for a few minutes that we give up a 15-3 run which has been our Achilles heel. IF we put together 2 halves of good BBall then we CAN win this game, but UConn has so much more tourney experience than we do.
I'm thinking this game will be close down to the wire but I'm not sure we have enough killer instinct away from Hilton to beat a team like UConn. I HOPE I'M WRONG!!!

Kansas State. That is all

It seems to me that the key here is to let White get his...I don't care if he does off for 20+ as long as he keeps his assists under 3.

We have a bad habit of leaving our assignments for help defense and doubling down low. If Drummond and AO can stay out of foul trouble and match up 1 on 1 against White I love our chances. If we start doubling down low, we are going to be giving up wide open 3's all day.

Drummond has the ability to guard White 1 on 1 IMO...

Lamb doesn't scare me (Babbed). Keeping quick little guards out of the lane does. If the guards don't make the layup, the situation is primed for an offensive board put back (Drummond). Will be interesting to see how a team not familiar (firsthand) with White approaches his play.

As always, getting our guys open, hitting shots, not turning it over, and limiting 2nd chance pts will put us in a great position to win. That's also a recipe to win just about any game.

All we have to do to win is the exact opposite of what we did against Texas.

You're right. Just go with that plan, and you guys will be fine:jimlad:

The thing about White is that he doesn't look "to get his". He's always looking looking to dish first. He'll pound it inside when it's an easy opportunity for 2 points otherwise he's working it to get a shooter open.

Vegas says it's a pick-em. I think that's a good sign. Being the conspiracy theorist that I am ... maybe the powers that be don't want UConn to advance - given what's been going on inside their program.

Regarding the actual game ...
- Focus defensively for the entire shot clock if needed
- Limit Turnovers
- Rebound
(Our shooters will be fine)

And that is my fear. There is no reason that we should have to double down on him. In my obviously biased opinion, Drummond should be able to lock him down.

What I'm stressing is that even if Drummond can't play great defense on him, the rest of the 4 players on the court need to stay on their assignments.
