Uconn V ISU Thoughts

,,,, just tired,, my way of saying and so forth

i'm not sure about your statement "if ISU is hot from 3 we win",,, first if any team is hoot from 3 they stand a damn good chance of winning,,,,

In order to beat Uconn, assuming they play reasonably well, you have to play good post defense,,,, I would be interested in your thoughts on the inside match ups

Btw I'm interested in a thoughtful discussion from guys that know ISU not the "you guys s**k" blah blah blah.

Thanks

Doesn't sound like your post players are exceptionally skilled offensively, but are very athletic, which means we'll have to work hard on keeping them off the offensive boards. That is something we have struggled with many times this year. I think if we can limit the 2nd chance points, we win this game (assuming we don't have a pile of turnovers and shoot like 30%).

ISU's 3-point proficiency is going to be a huge decision-maker.

But, two other factors: Rebound battle on both ends (especially UConn's ability/inability to get second shots) and if UConn shoots a decent FG%, especially shots that may interrupt scoring runs.

Lamb doesn't scare me (Babbed). Keeping quick little guards out of the lane does. If the guards don't make the layup, the situation is primed for an offensive board put back (Drummond). Will be interesting to see how a team not familiar (firsthand) with White approaches his play.

As always, getting our guys open, hitting shots, not turning it over, and limiting 2nd chance pts will put us in a great position to win. That's also a recipe to win just about any game.

I agree our post guys are not Skill types but they can score on putbacks,, Andre can be very impressive and is a tough match up for most opposing post players.

As to Lamb, he can lull you to sleep, doesn't look like he's doing much but ends up with 20, how tall is Babb?

Also are you do you guys Shoot threes in transition? or in offensive sets?
Thanks

None of the "experts" are picking I-State to get past UConn. That can't hurt. Unfortunately I really haven't watched them much this year -- not sure why.

It does seem that just in the last week they turned it on.

I'm still reeling a bit from the Texas game. That was so unpleasant on so many fronts. Hopefully the team has flushed it faster than me.

yes and this was your star player this year. will he be going pro?

Btw, How have we done against you guys in Football?

Some interesting matchups. I don't know if Scotty can check Napier, but who else is he going to guard? I don't think UCONN's bigs can check Royce. Maybe we should use a junk defense, box in one on Lamb and take our chances with Napier and the others shooting three's? Can't wait, should be fun.

Who does Allen match up with in this game? I'm guessing Babb on Lamb, Scotty on Napier, and Allen on...... Looks like Smith (6-8) has been starting for them, but Boatright plays a ton of minutes off the bench. I don't think Scott is quick enough to stay with Napier, but there's no way he can guard Smith when he's in the game either.

Both. Best way to say it is whenever they're open. If they're open, they convert quite often. Texas, for some reason (not typically a great defensive team) has twice smothered us on the arc. In the two losses to them, only 5 3pt makes each time.

He won't lull Babb to sleep, unless it's because Babb is the blanket. I believe he's 6'5

if Iowa state comes flat and the tries to catch up we lose, we have to start hitting threes as we get of the bus

who is gonna guard napier or whatever his name is?? scotty? allen? lol ya right. This is a mismatch nightmare in my opinion. We hit 10 or more 3's we have a chance.

First,,, I hope its a great game, where each team plays well,,,,

I have no Idea if Babb can cover JL,, as always so much depends on Officiating etc if Babb gets called early whether deserved or not,,,, sometimes we do not get JL involved early on... So who knows,,, I do know that most of the times Jim C and Uconn wins these types of games thats just our history,,, this year has been very inconsistent,,,,
But if we assume the two teams are relatively evenly matched then I'ld give Calhoun the edge,,,,, But then again I'm a Uconn fan...

Babb can cover JL and will. I would plan on finding points elsewhere. That is not to say UCONN can't win the game. But Royce White is only part of why ISU is tough to matchup with, Babb is the other. ISU is extremely unique right now. If we play well, I expect to win the game.

ISU is a very nasty matchup for UCONN. They will not be afraid to shoot 30+ threes if that's what UCONN gives them. We can play Booker, stick him in his corner, and really force Drummond/Oriakhi/Olander to defend Royce in space.

UCONN is a tough matchup for ISU as well. I think we can do a decent enough job on their small, quick, guards, but we have to do a better job on the boards than we did against Texas. That's my main concern, cleaning up the defensive rebounds.

ISU-UConn has the potential to be the best game of the entire round of 64.
