SUCKS! That game tells us NOTHING about Texas.

UCLA is 12-16 during Rhoads tenure. Rhoads is 15-13.
UCLA has 1 less conf win than Rhoads does, while playing 2 more games in that span!

UCLA is ranked 108th in run defense right now allowing 5.86 YPC. Over 2 more than ISU has allowed.
UCLA has NO wins over teams that finished with winning records since their bowl in 2009. NONE! ISU has at least 4 in that span of 15 games.

UCLA got clobbered often in conference play and went 4-8 overall last year and the Pac-10 was pretty mediocre as a whole.
UCLA was second to last in Pac-10 in scoring offense and defense last year, and the defense looks to be on that pace again.

Rick Nueheisel will be lucky to not get fired after this season.
A bad UCLA team last year, and likely worse this year.
Texas beat up on a sorry *** team last weekend.

Well if we don't clean up our turnovers and penalties, UCLA probably would beat us.

Bos, they barely beat San Jose State.

I don't think any of Texas' games really give a clear picture yet. They looked like crap against BYU, but they were still rotating 3 QB's in that game. Settling on McCoy as the starter is going to help them a ton, imo.

Don't forget what UCLA did to Texas last year in Austin.

Using any single game as the single measuring stick of how good a team is rarely works. So I agree, this game says nothing about what Texas will be like for the year - but it gives a glimpse of what they are capable of.

Michigan in 07(?) is a great example of that. Lost to App State and went on to beat a solid Florida team in the Outback Bowl.

I do not believe we have seen alot of what Texas will be this year yet. They have a freshman starting QB that put up alot of yds and pts on a poor UCLA D. It will be very interesting to see what he is capable of against a very experienced ISU D. Hoping we get a similar effort of our d line that we have gotten against Texas last year also Iowa and UCONN, and I think we will see it although I have not done alot of digging on Texas' O line....

Can someone help me out here?

I'll tell you something about Texas: They have a lot of talented players, and they're trying to gel with new coordinators. This could still end up being a very solid Texas team. We're going to need to play a better football game than we have yet this year to have a reasonable expectation of victory.

Texas looks a bit better this year, while UCLA has just gotten worse. No doubt, if we play well and do not turn the ball over, we have a good shot at winning.

They do look better.

If the Clones can just protect the ball and Texas can't run like crazy through the defense, Iowa State has a good shot at winning this game.

UCLA was hurt by Texas taking advantage of turnovers and penalties. We need to shore that up, pronto! Expect nothing less than a fierce fight on Oct. 1.

San Jose State's resume since 2009...

WAC member
3 wins
25 losses

That pretty much sums up just how bad they are. This team gets destroyed by nearly everyone they play. Their last win was on 9/18/10 against Southern Utah.... a resounding 16-11 triumph. Their last win prior to that you ask? Well that was on 11/28/09 against New Mexico State... a blowout 13-10 win against a team that won 3 games that year.

San Jose State has to be the leading candidate currently as the worst FBS football program in the country.

You cant compare teams year over year.

I think Memphis would beg to differ.

on a side note, was watching College Football Live and the little ESPN lead in that shows different content of which sport they are covering had a shot of the Cyclone fans on the field after the Iowa-ISU game chanting "ISU! ISU! ISU" ...

Thought it was kind of cool to see that publicity.

Maybe they can schedule a game here soon. It could be recorded and sent out to every high school football coach in America with the specific instructions to show it to every player on their team that doesn't think they are good enough to play D-1 college football as motivation.... :biglaugh:

I think we have a shot to compete well with just about any team ranked outside the top ten if we limit our mistakes. Of course, helps to be playing at home too.

Yep, agreed that UCLA isn't all that great this year. They do have an outstanding running back and TE that will play Sundays, but they kinda suck. Of course, they kinda sucked last year too.
