Two More Hawkeye Suspensions Looming?

Lose first two games? NIU lost last year to Boston College, San Diego State, Toledo, Central Michigan and Duke. Those are all teams that Iowa would beat. So for NIU to win would be highly against all odds. Just saying....
Iowa looked like garbage against BC in the bowl game. NIU returns all front 4 of defense. Iowa will have a combined 3 starts on the O line in week 1.

Playing on a sheet of ice tends to do that.....got the W so I'm not complaining.

Sad part is John Cooper campaigned for the ISU job (and IIRC the AD proposed him) but the president didn't like him and we ended up with Criner instead.

EDIT: Several of the issues was paying for meals for them.
Thanks....I still think Duncan is responsible for the demise of ISU football but I guess Criner put the nail in the coffin.

McCarney really doesn't get enough credit for what he did.

Northern Illinois isn't good. There's a reason Iowa is (or was) a two TD favorite for a game they probably won't even prep for

Actually is former ADs, a former President and a board of Regents Prez that crippled ISU athletics. Marvin Pomerantz was determined that we should have a Wisconsin type system and he was a U of I guy so he was on with Fry's suggestion to have one state U system.

Earle Bruce had said he wanted to stay at ISU but was offered OSU. I forget the ADs name, but when bruce went in to see if the AD would come close to closing the 10k difference, the AD (who was a former OSU guy and was star struck by them) told him that it was great having him and thanks for his service. Never made an effort to keep him. Bruce at the time was considered to have the number two recruiting class coming in and things were looking very strong.

This time we also passed over Cooper and went with Duncan who basically peed away the momentum. Had Bruce stayed, it would have been interesting to how the ISU/iowa difference would have been.

Real quick run down of when ISU feel into the abyss for awhile.

Thanks! Never knew that...

If Bruce had stayed...who knows. I definitely think Bruce was building a program that could maintain it's success. Duncan took over a loaded team and like you said...pissed it away.

Let's give some credit to former ISU Pres Gordon P. Eaton. "We're an academic school and sports are a distraction" was basically his message and he had no time or interest or support for sports. Right as TV and ESPN exploded. Good job good effort .

Bruce was also the reason for Ellsworth’s Juco success. That is where he put his players who couldn’t make ISU right away so he could keep an eye on them.

Question on Jackson...How does someone who is academic all-american get into trouble for grades? I would assume it is very difficult to be academic all-american, am I wrong?

Yep, he was one of the Presidents who hurt us. I am tired this morning and didn’t want to list everyone so that’s why I said presidents.

hmmm...good point. I guess I was full of it...just what I remember hearing.

For sure. I'm saying it won't be a traditional Iowa football game. I think it's like 24-14 with a quiet running game from Iowa. If NIU goes to a 3 man front that will make the passing game difficult for Iowa. But they are still NIU.
