I have always thought (and most I-State fans too) since CPR has taken over that we were turning the corner, and this weekend I think the Hawks finally saw what we have been talking about. We are playing good football. The kids play hard, they are resilliant, and its fun football to watch. Iowa fans have taken notice, they see that things are changing, in their eyes, this is the first time in a long time we have "actually won the game", not just get a few bounces and happen to be ahead at the end. We took it to them, from the opening kick straight through OT, and that scares the living daylight out of them. We have a fiery coach who everyone loves, Kirk is a likeable guy, but now seems to be old news. We are making stadium and atmosphere improvements (with more on the way IMO).

I just really feel like we are turning the corner, and becoming closer and closer to getting on the same level as Iowa, and may eventually pass them up as the premier team in the state.

Am I crazy? Does anyone else feel this way?

While I agree with what you are saying, until we consistently make/win bowls we will not be considered as turning the corner. I agree that this could be the start of it, but post season is expected we will not officially be there.

Too early this season to see whether we're turning the corner. Last year we got destroyed far too many times to say any kind of corner was turned. When we get to the point we're playing every game (no exceptions) within a couple touchdowns I'll agree. Until we stop losing 68-27 or 52-0 we haven't done much and we are a LONG ways from getting anywhere near Iowa. Ferentz has built a hell of a program. If you wanted to sell me what Ferentz has done happening here I'll absolutely buy however. That doesn't happen overnight however and we're still 5+ years from being on Iowa's level consistently IMO.

At this point, I no longer wonder when we will turn the corner, but rather if we will have enough time to enjoy it once we do. Conference Realignment is the biggest question mark out there.

Pinkel once said that Missouri will have turned the corner once a Big 12 championship trophy is in the trophy case. I feel the same way about ISU. For the sake of analogy, we may be finally walking down the hallway in the correct direction, but we haven't turned the corner yet.

To be fair he didn't say that we have turned the corner or that we are better than Iowa, rather that we are turning the corner and getting closer to being on the same level as Iowa.

And yes, I do agree that we are turning the corner. As others pointed out, there is still work to be done and we have to prove this wasn't a fluke. But overall I am happy with the direction we are headed!

Winning records in the conference will be enough... since we've only done that 1 time since the Big 12 started.

This^ I hope we don't turn the corner just in time to get hit by a bus and left out in the cold from any BCS conference.

Let's not get too jacked. A home loss to UNI was looking inevitable, and I personally don't think Iowa is all that good. Their D is average at best.

If we can handle UCONN on the road and start 3-0, I will be extremely impressed. Conference will still be tough sledding.

I don't think you can say by what we saw Saturday that we are playing good football. We have some good players and they play well at times, but by no stretch of the imagination are we playing good football. If we were playing good football, we would have beaten Iowa by 4 scores. 11 penalties, a lot of them coming at crucial times, three turnovers and two missed FGs say we are not playing very well. Fortunately, we were able to play badly and still pull out a win, which says maybe even more about the team than if we had played well and barely won.

I've had a feeling for while that this season for us will be comparable to Northwestern/Gary Barnett breakout year in the 90's. There are alot of parallels imo. I've also been on record for a 8-5 season (w/bowl win), you realize how gd long it's been since we had 8 wins. If we achieve that level of success this year I believe we have turned the corner & CPR is in top 3 for National coach of the year & Big XII Coach of the year.
