Tulsa as 2 point favorite........

Just read it again to make sure...nope, I'm in the right place. It is comical that Iowa State fans think they are entitled to being favored just because they play in a BCS conference. A great season in Ames is 6-6. Your program is not above being underdogs to mid major teams. Maybe do something on the football field that proves you can consistently beat up on these kinds of teams before you whine about a perceived lack of respect.

Since when was 6-6 a great season at ISU? McCarney basically got fired for going .500 year in and year out.

Why do you act like Iowa State is a MAC school? The Cyclones are either 7-1 or 8-0 against non-BCS opponents in the Paul Rhoads era (depending on how you count Utah). Rhoads has shown he just doesn't lose these games.

Don't forget that it wasn't too long ago the Hawkeyes were losing to Western Michigan at Kinnick.

He got fired because we had a new AD, JP, you're an idiot for that, and 6-6 is a great season for this team in this conference.

He got fired because 2 of his last 4 seasons were absolute disasters (and with how 02 melted down, it could qualify as one too), and chances of anything greater were choked away in 04 and 05 (had DMac made it to just one of those title games, that may have been enough to survive the 06 debacle). We were damn lucky to win a single game in 06.

The only preseason publication I pay any attention to is Phil Steele. That guy puts in a lot of work and his predictions are right more often than they are wrong.

He has Tulsa being tied with Houston for the Conference USA West Division title preseason. He expects Tulsa to have a tough run D & projects them to have the best secondary in CUSA.

On offense, they have more question marks, but Steele expects them to be solid.

This will be the best team ISU has faced in an opener since FSU in 02.

That being said, Tulsa is 1-17 on the road against BCS teams since 1997 with their only win coming against ND in 2010.

What century--or coach--are you making assumptions upon?

Well, I hope that you didn't start now.

Maybe you learned your math someplace other than Iowa State...

And how did that turn out?

Wow, I'm getting really tired of the rah-rah from this guy. I think we'll win this game too, but come on, man. Can we at least acknowledge that Tulsa is a well-regarded team that went 7-1 in C-USA last season? That three of their 5 losses were to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Boise State?

How has this tool not been banned yet? He's been a troll for the entire time he's been on CF.

BUT HE DOESN'T SAY NAUGHTY THINGS

As long as we can acknowledge that they lost the vast majority of their key contributors from that 7-1 CUSA performance, and Cody Green has never put together a game like Jantz's Iowa performance or Barnett's OSU performance.

You may not like what I have to say but most of the time it's true. Beating Oklahoma State (a fantastic win, BTW) does not make up for squeezing by UNI and Kansas, or getting crushed by Baylor, Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. One good win, while not necessarily a fluke, does not lend credence to immediate respect and approval. You have to CONSISTENTLY earn it by beating teams you should and hanging around with teams you shouldn't. Iowa State has done neither of those two things.

I'll give you Texas and Missouri, but I don't think you watched the same Baylor and Oklahoma games that I did. Those were tough games played by closely-matched opponents.

He is a numbers hack . . I can't wait to see Tulsa stacked up against a fired up, mad dog team/crowd in Ames.

ANY team playing ISU this year had better bring their best game . . to include your hawks.

Really don't think these guys are trolling too bad. Some of you need an honest look in the mirror of our program.

That said, this line should be close, but we should garner favorite simply by being at home. I'd say ISU -2 is a bit better.

I agree on both counts. I'm not too surprised we're slight underdogs. Personally, I see this as a toss-up game, given the number of new starters on defense. It will probably take a few games for them to really gel.

However, I'm a lot less concerned about the line than I am the final score, so this really doesn't bother me. I think our team sets up nicely to surprise people this year.
