Don't forget that we have Dagel back as well at Tackle. Makes for a nice 3 man rotation if the kid turns out to be solid. It helps tremendously that he'll be here for Spring ball. At Guard we'll have Burton, Lalk and O'moil rotating...which is also solid. Must come up with a Center, so that's likely the key to next year's OL.
Wow great pick up. But I hope we have other guys in the pipeline to rely on next season so we aren't hoping for a sophomore to come in and save the OL.
If the guards are all talented enough one of them would most likely transition into center. Lots of teams will have one of their starting guards be 3rd string center for emergency situations. If the talent is good enough that all 3 need to be on the field one will get moved to center.
I have no clue if that's the case at ISU currently but just stating that next years center could already be on the field this year.
Sounds like his dad is smart. Take a year to develop in jucos, get used to the college transition, find a school with academics, facilities, and integrity. Commit to a full ride where you are much less likely to find the kind of trouble at a big city school.

This is what happened to me my senior year. Played guard for most of my career, needed someone to fill center, took over back up duties my junior year and found the position my senior year.
This transition happens a lot. If a person can handle snapping the ball in today's OL schemes guard and center are fairly interchangeable. If there is an abundance of talent at guard in comparison to the "true centers" you find a way to get as much talent on the field.
Neither would I. My hope is that Taise wins a guard spot opposite Burton and Omoile and Llk fight for the center spot. The alternative is all of those three on the inside and Taise at RT. Who really knows what will happen at Oline. I think Burton and Campos are locks but outside of that there could be a lot of shuffling with some of these young guys.
I don't know. There's a picture of him with Cole Anderson and he's significantly bigger than Cole.
Just saw that, seems more legit. You have to admit though, ISU has a history of guys 'shrinking'.
This kid is a project, he is every bit of 6-8.5 if not more. He does have a redshirt and will use it his first year. They will stick him with the strength staff and put him in the cafeteria. He can easily add 15-20lbs to his frame. He carries what he has now really well. Navarro uses him at times out in the flat on quick screens and bubbles, which is quite impressive and should tell you something about the big guys athleticism
He can play high at times, which is expected at his size. Has a lot of learning left to do, and improvement before becoming a staple on a Big12 OL. When he gets tired his nasty streak goes away, he needs to get mentally tougher and in shape for 4 quarters of football at a high level.
He was signed as a projected RT starter for years down the road. Campos at LT and him at RT. Fill in some bigger bodied interior OL guys in between them and all of this sudden this OL looks like a real big12 line. Clearing the way for the stable of experienced RBs we will have by then, and protecting the QB to throw to the very talented & experienced WR crew at that time. Could be a good looking sight and a very welcomed one by Cyclone fans.

Scout's juco profile lists him at 6'7". Down from his HS profile of 6'8.5"

Tristan is 6' 8"---300 lbs. He most likely will be redshirted and allowed the opportunity to put on 20-30 lbs.
All I can say is if his commitment sticks we have a future PRO right tackle that will play for us for the next 3 out of 4 years. Smart kid, not an academic issue, we will love this kid, and he knows what big time football looks like. Needs some work on his game as noted above but he is a great get for us! FYI, I know him really well but this is all I have to add to this thread.

Texas was taking a serious look at him as well as others throughout Texas but having his old high school teammate at Iowa State was a big deal to Tristan. I am telling you that if we just worked our tail off in Texas recruiting we could get a dang team put together. These kids all know each other from their high school days and they can't all play for the Big 12 teams in Texas or the Aggies for that matter thus they have to head out of state to play in a Power 5 conference.
My brother flys a lot for work and he is constantly running into ISU coaches all over the country. I have no doubt that they already are working their tails off.
