Travis and Tim

I'm usually driving in a little bit after 8, so I'm generally very happy with my selection. DP show is great listening. On the way home 97.3 usually works fine, unless the coaches show is on.

"Wait, try this phone, see if you can hear anything."
"Hello?"
"Nope, he can't hear us. Why don't you try *this?"
"Hello?"
"Nope, still can't hear us. I tell you what, instead of talking sports while we try to figure out this technical difficulty behind the scenes, why don't we just keep doing trial and error live on air with no regard for our listeners whatsoever? I mean, there's probably only five listening anyway."
"Hello?"
"Nope, still can't hear anyone."

Like others, you probably tuned in the same time I did. When Mike and Mike went to a break. It was painful to be greeted with this exchange….and for soooooo long!

That said, in general, I think the show is getting better as I believe the guys have been spending more time actually together, in studio. IMO, their chemistry has gotten exponentially better as of late.

It doesn't seem like they communicate well. I mean the other morning they didn't know where the other one was, and they mentioned he didn't even have his cell #. Seems odd to me that you don't have the number of a person you do a radio show with. Chemistry is more than showing up for a 2 hour segment to do radio. Take an example from Mike and Mike them two know each other and thier families.

I think you are dead on here. You can tell there is no chemistry between the two and it makes for unoriginal, boring radio. Maybe that will come with time but it's not really working right now. Miller and Deace had great back an forth banter (because they are friends off air) and that is completely missing with Travis and Tim.

At least they'd be talking about what you'd expect them to be talking about.
I would listen to Perrault from time to time when I lived in that area and thought he was OK. Either I wasn't listening enough or he's a lot better when he has a vested interest in what he's covering.
I heard Miller talking yesterday (Matt on vacation) about how Matt is so good he'll be gone from this market soon. Found that interesting.

Well, I hope Miller is right. Seems to me that he has a misguided opinion of what "good" is. If "good" is blowing things out of proportion and getting listeners so mad that they call in or email the head of the station or boycott the sponsors, then yeah, Perrault is good. So was Marty. Miller is like the battered wife who thinks that her new partner is even better because he slaps her around harder than her ex.

"Good" is Steve Deace when he was doing afternoons on KXNO...informative, opinion-driven sports radio with analysis. Radio to spur discussion and thought, not ****** off callers. Rob Howe got it right, Perrault is a shock jock. I guess if making the listener so mad that he calls in is good for ratings and sponsors, then Matt is really good at his job. I'm sure that the next step up in media markets will be calling with a job offer soon. Welcome to Toledo, Tulsa or Albuquerque, Matt.

I like the show. It's nice to get a perspective on Iowa and ISU from people who dont have vested interests like a web site or something to sell.

I dont miss the updates of Lost or the 300 times a year Deace and Miller would break down the Iowa and ISU schedules.

I think it will get better.

I stopped listening when they had the whole "we're not going to break down the bowls just like EVERY OTHER morning sports show"

I want to hear about god damned college football for the 4 or 5 months we get to see it. Break down every bowl and matchup until it's over!

Aren't they both Iowa fans? Or at least they've made it known they prefer Iowa over ISU? Say what you will about Deace's allegiance to ISU, at least someone kept the Hawkeyes on-air in line. The first time I listened to T and T, Justice was going off about how ISU fans are so bitter and jealous of everything Iowa. Of course, the other guy is nodding his head and saying nothing at all.

HAHA good stuff here. I usually give Tim and Travis a shot each morning but usually turn it after 10 min. This morning was horrible, couldn't take a call! The guy was gonna talk about sport betting I believe, who the hell wants to listen to that in the morning?

same here i turn it on every morning, but never make it all the way to work. i mean they go two segments sometimes with no sports talk... last 2 days were babies, and people that should be on biggest loser... wait til basketball season is over with, then what?!

This morning during the debacle, Jim the support/producer guy, was trying to figure things out. He asked Justice to talk sports while he was trying to figure out the communication problem. Justice couldn't do it. Instead Justice immediately went to a break. When they came back the phones still didn't work so the producer guys asked him again to just talk about sports.....Justice jabbered like a 2 year old for 30 seconds about everything but sports and had to go to a break. I listened the entire 25min I was going to work and didn't hear a single thing about what I tune it for.

Tim isn't much better but Travis by himself was just plain lost! Very poor performance by the show’s host Justice. I understand the technical difficulty stuff but come on man….show your radio chops and talk about some freaking sports for god sakes.

T&T lack camaraderie as a duo, so I get the impression they are building that on the air as the show progresses. Unfortunately it comes at the cost of discussing sports. Hopefully this eventually is an asset, but currently it takes away from the novel idea of hosting a "sports talk show".

Travis actually has a lot of sports knowledge and information in his head, but he dishes it out far to infrequently. I almost wonder if his seemingly life long career as a play by play guy has him somewhat considering using this as a platform for something else down the road.

T&T have their moments, but they are far and few between right now.
