Lots of guys get mentioned in mock drafts, and he was getting some pre-season mention because people thought he would be the focus of the offense and take a leap this year. How has that worked out? I'm going to guess those mock draft selections start to dry up pretty quick. Dude does not have it and never will.Yes he needs to be one of the best shooters in the game that's exactly it. Why do you think he's listed on mock drafts? For his defense? Or do you think maybe people smarter than us think with his shot he can become a knock down shooter?
Yes he does take bad shots. I think experts know he won't be asked to do that in NBA. His percentage will improve by just removing those. If he only took shots that Duncan Robinson shot in Michigan his % would look better.Sandfort's issue is he still takes bad shots, but he is an elite shooter and it is why he is considered a second rounder this year.
That's the problem with iowa's entire roster. For my money, give me someone like Blake Hinson over Sandfort any day of the week. There's nothing PS does that Hinson doesn't do better.
Duncan is/was way better than SandfortYes he does take bad shots. I think experts know he won't be asked to do that in NBA. His percentage will improve by just removing those. If he only took shots that Duncan Robinson shot in Michigan his % would look better.
Elite?
I like to bag on goofy hawks as much as anyone, but if you have watched any of their games you see pretty quickly that he takes a lot of bad shots when he isn’t really open. When he is open and not rushing, he’s as pure a shooter as there is in college basketball this year.Lol 37% from deep is far from elite
Thats easy to say that now and I agree. If they were both Jr's in college right now I don't think I'd pick either to play 8 years and running in NBADuncan is/was way better than Sandfort
Agreed. The players he brings in are no doubt skilled offensively (that seems to be all he cares about). He keeps them around in his system (because nobody else really wants them) which leads to teams with a very high propensity for scoring the basketball. The problem is that only gets you so far. Year after year they end up getting embarrassed by teams with athleticism. They can't stop dribble penetration nor can they protect the basket. Its groundhog day over there and honestly a lot of their fans are on to it. I'm just glad he's had enough success to keep Beth from being able to actually fire him. That's the problem with iowa's entire roster.
You can find more athletic options that do the same thing and are underrecruited literally anywhere.
Fran recruits against himself for less athletic local guys he could easily strong arm into a preferred walk on spot or get as a transfer later on if they produce in a big way at UNI or Drake. It's the classic iowa "right way" that is really just roster mismanagment bordering on institutional negligence
...and I LOVE it!
There are a ton of guys that can knock a clean look down. The ability to work to get those clean looks, to make smart decisions, and to occasionally hit a tough shot to earn a good 3 point shooting percentage in a game situation matters. At some point you are what your shooting percentage says you are.I like to bag on goofy hawks as much as anyone, but if you have watched any of their games you see pretty quickly that he takes a lot of bad shots when he isn’t really open. It's pretty clear Fran is asking him to force the issue and become more of a chucker because it helps the team, that much is true.I like to bag on goofy hawks as much as anyone, but if you have watched any of their games you see pretty quickly that he takes a lot of bad shots when he isn’t really open. Weiskamp was really good at using his dribble to create space to get his shot off. Old rosy cheeks doesn't have that skill.I like Sandfort. But he wont get anything approaching volume state-side, and he still disappears at times.
I will say some of this is probably because they have to use him as a number 1 scoring threat with this roster, when he is really better suited as a number 3 catch and shoot spacing guy, more similar to a JorBo or Wisekamp with Garza or the Murrays.
In the NBA he will have to produce at near a 50 percent clip every touch he gets. Not saying he can't do it, but two bad shooting nights will put you relegate you for months or more in that situation. Any established role player in the NBA will tell you opportunity is everything.
Better to build that reputation in Europe with a longer leash surrounded by established Euro pros for spacing trying to win a championship than in Fort Wayne where a ball dominant has-been is trying to force his way back off the greyhound circuit back into rotation.

I agree. They both had the rosy cheek thing going on tho. Wisekamp's might have even been more so.Weiskamp was really good at using his dribble to create space to get his shot off. Old rosy cheeks doesn't have that skill.

That's fair I've more seen him on prospect lists like this as potential picks than actual mock drafts as far as respectable sources. You keep saying this. What mock drafts? I found one that had him in the top 100 prospects, that was ESPN's, but that's the outlier that I've seen.
