Timeouts

When the game is tied, you have the ball, there is a minute left, and you have THREE timeouts, you should probably use one. Fred did this in the OSU and KU games as well. He just lets them play, and they always have empty possessions.
Don't get me wrong, I love Hoiberg. But one of his strong points as a coach is drawing up plays, and he needs to take advantage of his strong points in close games down the stretch.
But we still used those timeouts. I agree that if, AT THE END OF THE GAME, we still have 3 timeouts, then Fred didn't manage them well. But we still used all of those timeouts.
We're excellent out of timeouts.

In my opinion we are at our best on the move when we spread the court penetrate and kick to shooters. Calling a timeout would make us stagnant and allow defense to get set up better. I would agree that at times we make poor decisions that can lead to someone to question it after the fact, but its still not in our best interest.
Hoiberg struggles with when to call time outs, it's obvious at this point. I love fred, but it is fair to criticize him in this area.
lets face it this is a bubble team at best, and there is a chance the bubble will burst. Until we can get a guy that creates his own shot, I don't see us being better than that. Clyburn is not that guy IMO.

The thing is, Fred has been consistent in all our conference road games down the stretch. He lets the guys play and they consistently come up with empty possessions. In the KU, TT, OSU, and Texas games, ISU had multiple empty possessions in the last couple minutes of the game, possessions that if you score on, you could of put the game away. In each game, he has had multiple timeouts in his pocket, and he does not touch them.
Its time to start using them. Letting the guys play through it IS NOT WORKING. Take some timeouts, and discuss the situation, and set up a plan of attack. If ISU even wins half these close games on the road we are in first place right now, and each one of those games was there for the taking in the last few minutes, and ISU did NOTHING to take them.
I think lately Fred has been getting the match ups he wants so he doesn't want to call a TO and give the D a chance to adjust. The problem is we have done a terrible job of taking advantage of those match ups in crunch time. I don't think running an iso for Clyburn is the answer for a late game bucket so hopefully we get a little more creative at the end of the game.
I gotta quit coming on here after a loss. This place is ridiculous after a loss.
Fred used and needed every one of the three timeouts he had left in the second half and still people are ******** about it. When someone gets trapped on the corner or can't get the ball in and ISU doesn't have a timeout to use will you all be happy?
