Time for a Real Discussion About Caitlin Clark

I’ve said numerous times on here…. CC is an amazing shooter and passer…. probably the best ever in women’s college basketball.

And I understand that when you are the main playmaker on the team, you will have some turnovers (although Monte Morris never did!), but she does have a lot.

That’s not my issue. Her antics, her whining and crying, her flopping, her way overly dramatic faking of injuries…. and finally my biggest pet peeve of all… laziness in getting back on defense…. are all the parts of her game that I don’t care for.

She’s probably the best offensive women’s college basketball player ever IMO…. but I wouldn’t call her the best player ever. Too many other issues take away from that.
Honestly the best part about having a camera on her the entire game is now being able to see every single little hissy fit she throws after every single call. Missed layup? OMG I was fouled. Drive and pull up miss shot OMG where is the foul? Hack an offensive player? WTF are you talking about that wasn't a foul on me. Even when they do call a foul on her defender she still mouths ****. It was hilarious I think in the first half after her 2nd foul or something and she was going back to the bench and she came back on the floor screaming at the ref and 2 of her teammates had to rope her back in. Shooter that she is, has some great passes for sure...her chicken **** whining 100%

Im open to alternative opinions on this, but an observation from last night (and other games): she’ll make a great pass to a teammate and they’ll miss the shot. She inevitably throws her arms up in exasperation with an eyeroll. She did it last night in the first half. Made a great skip pass to Stuelke under the hoop and Stuelke either bobbled it out of bounds or missed the layup, I can’t remember. Clark threw her arms up and sulked as she walked back to play D.

Is that just her being a competitor? Or is she disgusted with her teammate? It appears like she’s pissed at her teammate for not making the play. Personally, I’d like to see a person encourage their teammates instead of being disgusted at them. But that’s my personal approach and others may be different.

Blah. Game was within 10-12 points late. And CC is who everybody paid to see, so keeping her on the floor is also about giving people their money's worth.
That's a dumb reason to keep a player on the floor. If you don't play a player then they have room to complain. But if you do what is smart for your team that is what is important.

If she was to get an injury in garbage time that kept her out of the next couple of games would those ticket buyers have more or less of a complaint than the ones who got to see her for over 3 quarters before she sat?

If it was still a competitive game that is all moot, though...

Yeah, I tuned in for a couple of minutes trying to give her a chance. It wasn't long and she drove for a layup and got the foul call for an 'and 1' but she still had to complain at the ref. Girl, you got the call, shut up and go to the line.

I turned the channel again.

I see she had 12 turnovers. Were they just from trying to make something happen?

This is exactly what Iowa WBB needs come tourney time, others have to step up.

I don't disagree but nobody is going to guard Iowa like Penn State did last night. Penn State wasn't doubling Clark on the perimeter, instead they were letting her drive and then their post defender was sliding over for the double. That left Stuelke WIDE open time and time again. The recipe to beat Iowa is to make the other guards shoot because they honestly aren't very good.

Well, with 5 early turnovers, she has already moved into 8th place all time in turnovers. 14 away from 7th, 34 away from 5th. I have faith that she can attain that lofty status and wind up in the top 5 all time in turnovers too. 4th is 60 away, that might be a bridge too far.
Labron James had 2 turnovers last night. He is now the career turnover leader by nearly 600 turnovers. It doesn't appear that Russel Westbrook, Karl Malone, Moses Malone, John Stockton or Kobe Bryant will ever catch him. They should all be embarrassed at the laughing stock they have all become.

I try watching her play and within a few minutes I become nauseated and have to turn the channel she is a traveling clown show

She has her triple double after 3 quarters. 23 pts, 12 assists, 11 turnovers.
qwerty you going on and on about her turnovers is as bad as the Iowa fans that talk about all the interceptions that Purdy should have thrown this year. He has had an unbelievable year and more success than anyone could have imagined. CC is possibly the best scorer and passer in the history of women's college basketball. But let's focus on her turnovers and interceptions that never even happened.

Huh? I haven’t mentioned the turnovers but these actually happened, not never happened. Are you saying her credited turnovers are made up? Also, you do want your point guard to at least be a 2:1 ratio. Monte was in that 5:1 category.

Given that two of those guys are dead and two others are past age 60, I agree their chances of catching LeBron are exceedingly slim.

Oh come on, BC. "Shoulda, woulda, coulda" interceptions are exactly the same as actual turnovers that are in the stat book.

If this has been added earlier, sorry about this. Just looked up Pistol Pete.
A couple interesting points. When Pete played at LSU, you could not play a college game as a Freshman, so you only played 3 years. Second, no 3 point line. He averaged over 40 points a game.
A couple more interesting points. Pistol Pete averaged 38.1 shots per game, shot 43.8 %, and averaged 5.1 assists per game. CC averages 19.7 shots per game, shoots 46.8 %, and averages 8 assists per game.

Just making sure CC gets recognized for ALL of her accomplishments. It is quite extraordinary to be in the top 5 of an NCAA category . . . . even if it is turnovers.

PSU decided to shut her off from shooting 3's and they did but it allowed her to feed Schulty (sp) of which PSU had no defensive answer. CC is a great passer and Schulty has great strong hands because the passes were crisp and right on time. Last night was an exposure to CC fans as to what lays ahead for CC in the WNBA which is a quicker as tall guard in her face the minute she crosses center court. She won't be Steph Curry in the WNBA unless she gets a lot quicker to get open or the bulkier low post screeners can free her up. She is a great college player and her passing will translate to the WNBA. Her whining is part of her game but her great passes underneath to players that blew easy layups would make me shake my head too. Looking at you BRE.

I didn't watch the game so don't know how real close it was, but if there is a chance of losing I could see why they would keep there best player in. If your going to win the game then I think it is a mistake to keep best player in because the thought is everybody paid to see her. I think that is bad coaching.

I could see it if she was a few points off the record, keep her in. But if you believe you will win and get the record next game or two, take her out. But Iowa can go ahead and play her non stop for every game for all I care regardless how far down or up. I wont pay to see it live or add to tv ratings. And I know she and Iowa will sleep just fine knowing I don't care. So will I. LOL.

Looks like she’s about a 1.8 career assist to TO ratio since that’s what everyone is talking about.

Since I’m actually an nba fan for life Harden is the only player I remember being equally ball dominant, yes even MJ and LeBron played off ball much more. Harden is also about 1.8 career ratio.

Others people brought up:
Stockton: 3.7 (elite)
MJ: 2.1
LBJ: 2.1
Kobe: 1.6
Westbrook: 3.2 (great)
Reggie miller (skinny high volume shooter who barely passed): 1.4

2 is generally the good/bad line. Below 1.5 is real bad, above 3 for long career is elite.
