Time for a Real Discussion About Caitlin Clark

Did they seriously put a sticker on the floor where she took that shot? If so, that is truly pathetic.
They did indeed.

It‘s actually kinda neat, players and even some of the announcers were trying shots from there before & after the game, I heard. It’s just like painting a stadium seat a different color where a record-setting home run landed.

Imagine what happens if she turns the ball over by it, she will blame the sticker for traveling.

I did enjoy the one bit of yesterday’s game I saw where she was driving the lane and got fouled, as she’s dribbling. She immediately started gesturing that she was in the act of shooting and should get free throws. It didn’t work, lol.

I haven’t watched more than a couple minutes of her games. For women’s BB, if it isn’t ISU, I don’t watch it.

Couldn't a donor just step up and pay for Ava to go to school if it meant another year for CC? Seems like an obvious solution if that is really the only thing standing in the way of CC coming back.
It would have to be an academic scholarship, and Ava would become a walk-on. Bluder gets 15 scholarships maximum; she can't create an additional athletic scholarship.

This discussion is goofy AF. CC has made an imprint on female bb, like no other. Not debatable.
Imagine this discussion, if she'd signed on for BF.
She would never sign with BF, and I am glad she didn't.

She is a poor sport, selfish player, and horrible role model for girls.

The portal is the tell: notice how nobody wanted to come play with her when it would only take 1 impact player to get them a guaranteed Final Four return and possible Natty.

Any team that dares face guard her the whole court in the tourney could end their run early.

Explains why Iowa threw the game at Nebraska before. Just proves 100000% that she chose to break the record at home vs. winning the game. Cost them a regular season Big 10 title too!
I wouldn’t have put it past them to demand a sticker be placed on Nebraska’s floor but winds up winning a team championship wasn’t as important

Yeah…. that was another one of her great moments. She was dribbling into the lane, not even close to a shooting motion, and got fouled, and walked immediately to the FT and was whining to the official for a shooting foul.

Isn’t the WNBA somewhat more physical than the college game? If so, she better learn to toughen up. Whining and crying about every touch foul may not go over too well in the pros?

Really kinda surprised they didn’t rope off the area where she made the “historic shot” instead of putting small sticker on the floor.

Probably going to remove that section of floor after the season and Murph will drive it to the Smithsonian. Knowing Iowa’s great marketing dept., they will parade it around towns and charge people to have there pic taken with it.
If we are lucky all Murph would do it’s drive it…

This is ridiculous.

A poor sport? Ok fine.

A selfish player? Fine.

A horrible role model for girls? C'mon now. Get a grip. She seems to be very charitable with her time and money. She's never been in trouble with the law. She says all the right thing in interviews. She's showing young girls that there is a place in the general sports landscape for a women's player. Saying she's a "horrible role model for girls" in asinine. I have 3 daughters and I'm a Cyclone to the bone, but I'd have zero issue if any of them looked up to Clark.

Agreed. And because she’s made such a big imprint on female bb, her on court attitude/antics can be questioned. There are likely some girls who see CC complaining all the time to officials and think since CC does it, there’s nothing wrong if they do it, too. I would have the same feelings of her poor on court attitude if she signed with ISU.

And I don’t like it when any athlete, male or female, on any team, at any age, etc. complains about officiating.

So there is a legitimate discussion point about CC’s on court attitude. Just because a player is a star doesn’t mean they should be immune to people discussing their behavior
Yes, this. And furthermore, if it happened occasionally it would not even be that big of a deal. But, its every game, its every few plays. She is constantly doing it, complaining, flopping, taunting, faking, then whining some more. Half the time whining and crying instead of playing defense, but god knows she will never miss an offensive opportunity, god forbid she actually lets someone else on her team touch the ball on offense.

I wouldn’t want my boys whining at the refs at all, let alone over crazy crap. Where most people see her is on the court.

You have no issues with your daughters screaming at refs, chewing out teammates on the floor, yelling at her coach, pretending to get hurt while bum rushing an opposing fan because they lost? That’s definitely an interesting take.

I live in Eastern Iowa and work with a bunch of big Iowa fans. One of them went to the Penn State game a couple weeks ago and got to sit really close to the court. It was the first time he had the chance to sit that close to the court when Clark was playing. He told me the next day that she was really impressive but he didn't like the way she handled herself on the court at all. He has 3 daughters and said he would want them to work as hard as her, but not act like her on the court.

That's just one guy's opinion. Taking the Iowa or ISU blinders off, you can't deny her talent at all. You also can't deny the fact that she's been a big part of growing the women's game. She also does a ton of things off the court that I believe are genuinely good. In the heat of competition, she does some pretty cringy things that were taught to me as cardinal sins when I was first learning the game. Yelling at the refs for fouls while not hustling back on defense is something she does rather regularly, and is something that will get most players Td up and sitting on the bench. I would not want my son or daughter to look at that and think it's ok to do. Does that mean she's not a good role model? No. Does that DEFINE her as a player? No. But it's part of her game that warrants criticism and I could understand why some people don't want their kids to follow exactly in those footsteps.
