Where are we with a Def. Coordinator?

Here's my speculation....

There have been many names thrown around - all viable candidates....

Ron Aiken - Arizona Cardinals; DL, preoccupied until after super bowl. If he's the choice, we will be waiting up until signing day for this announcement. Very talented DL coach as well.

Greg Hudson - East Carolina; Def Coord., many schools were either interested in him and or interviewed with him, fortunate for us he was not selected at these HIGHER profile schools (i.e. Oklahoma State, Michigan and Miami). There is a chance that we had to wait for some of these positions to be filled before he would make his decision about us. What i like about him is he's been an effective D.C. without using 4-5* players. That shows me through development and schemes this guy can flat out coach!!! He would be a great hire.

Charlie Partridge - familiar with Iowa State - and coach rhoads. He's been at Wisconsin and Pitts, again while at Pitt worked for Coach Rhoads. This would be a job elevation for him and thus very attractive. This guy can flat out recruit florida as he's from Plantation florida and has a lot of contracts. Additionally, he has coached the DL and DE while at Pitt and Wisconsin so he could serve in that role as well as DC.

Here's two other names to think about for position coaches....
Curtis Bray - was with Coach Rhoads at Pitt and coached both Linebackers and Def. Ends under Rhoads. When Rhoads left, Coach Bray was not retained.

Shawn Simms - coached at ISU as Outside Linebackers coach in 2006, and was on the Pitts staff in 2001-2002.

Don Dunn - Coached with Rhoads at Auburn - specialty is DT-DL. Appears to be a decent recruiter mainly in Mississippi and Alabama. We may not go in and compete with Alabama or Auburn for the 4-5* recruits, but we can build our program with 3* recruits just like Kansas has done.

Mike Nelson - SDSU D-line coach - coached with Rhoads at ISU, got commitments from Fred Garrin and Rubin to name a few, recruited Texas mainly so another valuable recruiting tool.

So this is the list of potentials out there, i'm sure there's more - but, this may be a few of the candidates were looking for in our 2-3 more coach. hires.

By the way, wouldn't Saturday in front of a sold out Hilton Col. be a great time to introduce the new Defensive Coordinator???? Just saying, Jamie likes to make a splash - that would do it!!!!

Even if the coach is in the Super Bowl they would still announce the move, especially due to the importance in recruiting...

Do you remember the blasting that Romo took for going to Cabo on his weekend off before a playoff game. Do you really think an assistant would ask for a day off while your prepping for the playoffs or super bowl to interview at ISU????

Probably not.....If its him, that interview will happen a day or two after the big game....two weeks.

Most NFL assistant are not media darlings. Nor are they dating distracting bimbos like Jessica.

This comparison = FAIL

Is Jimmy Williams no longer a candidate?

I really hope Coach Rhoads is able to fill out his staff with a couple more african americans. It just doesn't seem right to have only one black coach when such a high percentage of the players are black.

I doubt they will get someone that will make as big of a splash as Herman did, and they didn't introduce him at halftime. When our DC is announced it will be just a article on Cyclones.com.

As for speculating as to who the DC and S&C coaches are going to be, I've given up. Whenever we have "figured out" who the coach is going to be, it's someone else. Chances are that it will be someone we haven't thought about.

I have a feeling we won't hear anything until after signing day, or at least shortly before it.

It is pretty apparent that Rhoads is out recruiting and focusing on building the team for the next year. These guys are coming to play for him. While a DC could help take some of the load off Rhoads for recruiting it seems that since he is the must public figure of ISU football he is the one selling the team to recruits. We're probably in damage control with recruits and patching together a class that won't absolutely be terrible. Coaches can always be hired whenever.

My biggest concern is not having a dedicated S&C coach yet. Especially since that is the only coach the players work with until spring ball.

:sad:Fricken A.... I started a DC thread first today and everyone posts to yours.:skeptical:

Let's just all admit that none of us have a clue.

I AGREE ...I Do NOT have a clue who will be the next defense coordinator.

I have complete confidence in my new head coach to get us the best defense coordinator available!!!!

Rhoads is taking care of business right now. Player meetings, recruiting and the new DC is not the most important thing. It is vital for him to establish a relationship with the players we have first, so they stay, recruit second and hire the remaing spots third. He is an established DC, he is the boss, he can tell any recruit how they will fit in and what D we will play.

Credits on Lou.

Need CyBookie event on several names mentioned in this thread and then Mr. Other.

Good point about the existing player relationships which in turn is vital to recruiting. One of the keys to securing commits from guys who you are able to get to visit is to have player hosts who go all out to sell the program. The hosts spend the most time with the recruits and probably have a greater impact on securing commitments than a short meeting with a DC would have.

I'm starting to wonder about another possibility concerning the DC position. PR could already have an agreement with a coach who is fulfilling his obligations to his present school. Not all that common in the days of what's in it for me, chizik-style coaches, but still a possibility. If so, we may not have an announcement until signing day or shortly after. There is typically a fair amount of coaching movement in the week or two following signing date.
