THT Going into the Draft

Yeah, I mean ratings don't really matter right? That explains why Coach K and Calipari always ignore the McDonald's AA every year and focus on lower rated players.

We are not Duke, Kentucky or Kansas? I agree with you that the kid’s ranking should raise some initial questions but you need to watch the film. The kid is not Clayton Custer 2.0. More of Tyler Herro lite.

Who gives a ****? I mean who would want this Ja Morant guy... dude wasn’t even ******* ranked so he’s clearly a bum.

There is a middle ground here. Overall team rankings relate directly to the success a program has when looked at over a 5-10 year period. This kid isn’t Ja Morant but he also isn’t Clayton Custer.

And hopefully the NBA evaluators are realistic with him throughout the process so he can continue to make the right choice for him. If he's not invited to the combine or the evaluations aren't showing him as high as he expected, he still could come back to school (I guess).

But if multiple draft services are picking him around 20, that's a ways away from a second round pick. I get that he didn't produce as well as we would have hoped here, but the professionals doing the evaluations believe right now that he'll get picked in the first round. I would guess these people know more about this than we do

I've seen draft services that have him late 2nd and not at all. They are all pretty uncertain outside the top 10 to 15. His individual workouts, and the combine (if he gets an invite) will determine his draft status.

I think things really are hopeless for you.

Sorry to be asking so many questions tonight, but what the **** is going on with this program right now??? I thought they turned the corner in KC and thought we had a nice core to build on for the next couple years.

Since then we've lost to the worst tournament team Ive seen in recent memory, had a coach be rumored to leave and looked like he was leaving by his demeanor in the tourney game, had exactly 1 player looked like he even cared if we won or lost that game, that same player gets kicked off the team a week later while the coach gets a 5 year extension, we have 2 guys who arent anywhere near ready declare for the draft so they can go play in front of 600 fans in the Quad Cities next year, and the game plan for all of this is to replace them with a guy ranked 396th in his recruiting class?? Not to mention our former coach taking over the most hated program in college basketball.

Excuse me for not having a complete meltdown about the future of this program right now.

I called you a troll a long time ago. I should have just called you and a$$hole.

Deonte Burton is/was a tweener, who is also now a millionaire.

Deonte Burton has exceptional explosion that THT has not exhibited. All things considered, if you look at Burton’s senior year and THT’s freshman year I would have expected Burton to be the more effective pro.

Back on topic. My frustration with this is he is obviously not ready. I just dont see it right now.

His game reminds me alot of Niang, if Big Georges were smaller, slower, less conditioned, a worse shooter, had less basketball IQ, and wasnt a good teammate. I just don't understand how it took a guy like that 4 years of college bb and 2 years in the G-league to make it, but THT thinks he's good enough to go now.

Prohm deserves some criticism for this also, its fine if he wants to recruit 5 star 1 and done guys, but we better be getting some results from it. When I think of one and done guys, I think guys who pick up their team and teammates, get hot and go on deep tourney runs, not guys who are playing so poorly and selfishly that they need to be benched in the Big 12 championship game and NCAA tourney.

The NBA appears to be moving more and more to a developmental league system closer to the MBL’s minor leagues. It seems to me this alters the type of high school player a collegiate program should target. Is it strategically worth it to offer a scholarship to a highly ranked high school athlete who likely isn’t ready to move directly into the NBA after one year in college but likely would be drafted by the NBA into its D or G-league system (i.e THT or Wigginton)? Somebody with the talent of Zion Williamson is a no brainer, who will contribute enormously in their one and done season. But athletes a notch or so below, can create all sorts of issues for a coach. Players who fully expect to leave for the NBA after one year and expect the coach to showcase them in their one collegiate season even at the expense of the team. Creating all sort of team chemistry issues. I’m coming around to the position that it may be best to avoid these second-tier athletes. Might ISU be better off developing athletes that have more limited NBA potential, but who fully buy into team ball, who look forward to the full collegiate experience and by their jr. or sr. year outperform these one and done 2nd tier athletes?

Yeah this sounds like a you problem. It's kind of like when you have to puke but you haven't yet. You know you'll feel better when you do, so might as well get it over with. Go ahead and let it all out. Maybe you'll feel better after.

Dude, log off and breathe.

I’m so disaapointed at some people in this board. Really hope you are not as terrible human beings/selfish a** holes as some of you come across in this thread.

As for the topic in hand, if THT and his family think this is the right choice for him, then best luck to him on pursuing his dreams. No reason to pass up on the money if he gets a good draft grade.

sigh... I deserve this for using an analogy on this board...

I would like the record to state I do not believe this kid is Ja Moran’s 2.0. I also must confess that I also debated using Jarrett Culver as an example. I also do not believe he will be Jarrett Culver 2.0.

So what? You know as well as I do that upsets to the 4 and 5 seeds happen every year in the tourney. Purdue had a bad game and lost to an inferior team. Go look up stats on how often 12 or 13 seeds win their second round game after pulling an upset.

Lets not act like Iowa State beat the '96 Bulls just because this team beat Purdue 2 days earlier.

You’re so ******* dense.

You aren’t even an Iowa State fan

Is that the same standard when people bring up the injuries in 17-18 and the LW and SY injuries and suspensions this year. I’ve seen plenty of posters saying we would have been a bubble team 17-18 or won the regular season this year but for the injuries and suspensions. I just think you need to be consistent. The agenda driven arguments are only going to get worse over the next couple of years.

You’re breaking the irony meter.

Your truth is showing again.

I get it. I called him Tyler Herro lite in another thread. What I’m saying is that not every player is a diamond in the rough. But you can occasionally take flyers on kids outside the Top 200...I just wouldn’t make it a habit.
