THT Going into the Draft

Anyone have thoughts on Zion stepping in? He seemed to have been highly recruited but I don’t know much about him. he started the year injured, how much did that affect his minutes?

Recruiting wise his stock rose dramatically later in the process. Without looking at his profile I think Iowa State and Kansas were really the only two high major programs to offer him. Most other offers were mid-major.

If you watched him out there this year when he did get in you could tell he wasn't ready. Didn't do much other than find a spot on the perimeter and shoot three's.

Probably a smart move. If you look at the mock drafts, the thing that gets mentioned more than anything his age and upside. Age/upside is a quickly depreciating asset in the NBA, so may as well go while the gettin' is good.

If LW decides to declare and doesnt come back, and Prohm doesnt land a transfer of Shayok's caliber we are looking at a complete dumpster fire next year. Thats not good considering we just had one last year, and Ill seriously question whether Prohm can coach here anymore.

This is why I have been so critical os CSP and the team underachieving this year. We needed to really peak with this roster to pull in some big recruits for next year. If we bottom out next year we will have two rebuilding years and a one and done tourney appearance over a three year span. That is a big step down from the years prior and it is going to take a lot of momentum out of the program for recruiting.

This! People spinning this as a positive sign that we can get a one and done are full of it. Any P5 school can sell that. This year was important for building and sustaining the momentum of the program. I still think we have the talent to make expect the tournament next year but if we don’t we are looking at 3 straight average or below average years. That is where I think people have been missing the issue with Prohm. A poor 2019-2020 digs a big hole that I don’t think is recoverable.

Long term we will be fine however we end up because of our fans but it will just be the biggest missed opportunity in school history.

1 - Shows ISU can get good talent, possibly even one-and-done type.

2 - He's nowhere near ready as-is.

3 - NBA loves raw talent, it's their version of us normal people playing the Powerball. Unfortunately for them, the odds of success seem to be pretty close between the two

4 - While I think he has upside, I'm not as confident he has quite the long-term NBA viability as some. With that said, most of his detracting attributes are teachable if the student WANTS to learn.

Im really questioning where this program is heading with CSP, he should have some guys that are juniors and seniors now that were 4 year high school players. If he wants to recruite 1 and done caliber players then we better get some results from them in the short time they are here dont you think? Its either that or he needs to find some players like Monte and Niang who will be here for 4 years.

You strive to win games. Losing your best talent at a school like ISU really isn't a positive. It can be spun that way, but maybe having this excite a kid that can be in a class 2 years from now... eh.

I agree that losing talent is bad, but if your best talent can't be bothered to play anything but hero ball for scouts, then it really may be addition by subtraction for the team as a whole.

But it might not be about getting drafted as much as it is where he's projected to be picked. A first round pick means a guaranteed contract. A second round pick can get a guaranteed deal from the team that drafts him but that's not usually how it goes.

Probably moot, though. I think he's a mid-to-late first round pick.

With the addition of the 2 way contracts teams, that's a little more incentive to come out if a team promises you that deal as a second round pick. Not set for life money but about $250k, and you don't have to go overseas to get it.

Haliburton and Conditt seem to fit that bill. Seems to me he's recruiting both. He's just not getting the same amount of instant impact transfers that Hoiberg did. But that was inevitable.

As for Prohm and the staff I hope they can find another grad transfer or that Nixon really steps up next year. "Guys leaving early" & "Guys transferring" will not be valid excuses for missing the tournament next year. Need to keep the program on the rise or fear a flash back to the McDermontt Days .

Get on an NBA contract at least, and save yourself the Naz/Georges/Deonte route of spending 2-3 years having to earn an NBA check with no guarantees?

And if he is going to be an NBA player he can develop into that places other than Iowa State.

The money is there, and I think he's wise to go.

With THT gone I think our success next year hinges on what LW does here in the next couple weeks. Next year's roster as it stands right now without any top grad transfers is a roster that Im not confident we win very many games with.

Prohm has already went 9-9 and 10-8 with his 2 most talented teams, next year could get extremely ugly, there is no way we are a tournament team, and you are looking at a 6-12, 5-13 type season.

I'm with you. The people who seem to have disdain towards him because they don't think he will have success in the NBA, I don't get. If you really feel that way and don't think he will porogress past what he has shown, why not get all the money you can while it is there for you? If he is hearing he will be a Mid-to-late first rounder, go get that money young fella.

Potentially losing 5 of our top 7 from this year is... worrisome to say the least.

Texas Tech lost 67% of last year's scoring, six of their top eight scorers and an unexpected one and done guy in Zhaire Smith.

While Final Four is a tremendous accomplishment, as a fan I will not accept a dumpster fire. Prohm and this program should be good enough to reload, beat the TOE, be a threat to win the Big 12 regular season and tournament, and get into the tourney as a top six seed every year.
