THT Going into the Draft

This is correct, but it's dumb IMO. The NBA values youth and "potential" over known commodities WAY too much IMO. If you're 7'3", the NBA will make you a lottery pick whether or not you can even dribble or shoot a basketball at all because..... well..... potential.... duh.

And if you're a senior in college, you're way too old, but if you're a sophomore that's perfect! 2 years difference! Really? So you'll take a risk on a sophomore that hasn't shown much in college over a senior that has shown everything you'd ever want.... just because one is two years younger. Just idiotic.

The NBA is drafting players for how they are going to be 3 to 5 years down the line, not how they are preforming today unless you are someone like Zion or you exploded your last couple of years. They would rather have a 19 year old then a 22 year old. They are all trying to find the next Greek Freak of a player, and figure they can teach you the finer points at the NBA level that you did not learn in college.

The NBA is the only league where 1st round picks do not make the roster the next year. NFL they expect you to play, MLB spend time in the minors then up if you progress. The NBA its on a summer league team, if you show enough, they may invite you to camp, if not they release you.

Hell they only have 2 rounds for a draft, its the hardest league in the world to actually make a team and then stick around awhile. Look at the kid Iowa had drafted three years ago, he made the team, hardly ever played, was traded and then cut immediately. Its was cheaper to draft someone then have him on the roster, with his skill set.

Good luck to Horton, If he was my kid, and was suppose to go in the first round, I would be telling him to grab the money while its there.

When I think of one and done guys, I think guys who pick up their team and teammates, get hot and go on deep tourney runs, not guys who are playing so poorly and selfishly that they need to be benched in the Big 12 championship game and NCAA tourney.

It is interesting that in his last 3 games he wasn't good and sat on the bench for the last 10 mins of those games.

Back on topic. My frustration with this is he is obviously not ready. I just dont see it right now.

His game reminds me alot of Niang, if Big Georges were smaller, slower, less conditioned, a worse shooter, had less basketball IQ, and wasnt a good teammate. I just don't understand how it took a guy like that 4 years of college bb and 2 years in the G-league to make it, but THT thinks he's good enough to go now.

Prohm deserves some criticism for this also, its fine if he wants to recruit 5 star 1 and done guys, but we better be getting some results from it. "Prohm deserves some criticism for this also".....in your world, is there anything that CSP DOESN'T deserve criticism for? Geez.

I saw someone say he's #20 on draft express. Draft express is regarded by many as the best mock-draft site for NBA

I gotta say...the first round of the NCAA tournament feels like a really long time ago and the Big 12 Tournament....did they even have one this year?

In the d league he’ll get more games, fewer distractions and a salary.

I think he'll be developed on a NBA roster rather than play in the G League. I think most NBA teams would rather develop their real prospects (1st round picks) with the big team rather than in the G League.

You’re not getting it. Kane was great in college but that was in large part because he was a 23 year old man playing against mostly 18-20 year olds. He wasn’t too old for the NBA they just didn’t think he was good enough when he didn’t have the huge physical advantage over his competition. THT was not as good as Kane this year but he’s barely 18, imagine how good he would be in five years against the same level of competition.

The Kane comparisons are weird.

Kane was a veteran on his last leg and basically bullied his way to the hoop and hit an occasional 3 but didn't really have any great skillsets.

THT's footwork around the hoop and touch off the glass etc. (when he's patient) are really good and is just scratching the surface and with the best of the best coaching/training could be a really nice finished product.

Definitely, but there’s still a lot of mid to late first rounders that might not be major contributors on their team in the first year and will get thrown to the g league still, even just for a couple days here and there and then have them on the bench when they need them.

18 year old with a lot of potential, NBA drafts on potential, nuff said.
Yeah, that is what I am afraid of when the NBA allows high school students to enter the draft. We are going to see the Kwame Brown's, Eddy Curry's, and Eddie Griffin's go top 10 when the studs we have seen in college get relegated to middle of the 1st round. It hurts the NBA and college game. No NBA GM wants to miss out on Kobe Bryant. The one and done thing is not the best either, but I would still take that over before. I don't know. Maybe going to the G league route first or if they go the college route, they have to stay 3 years like baseball. Anyways, good luck THT.

Both THT and LW better get used to life overseas or life in the D league (getting up early for long bus rides and lots of dinners at the Golden Corral) because they won't be playing in the NBA next year.

Agreed, I've been to a couple of Iowa Wolves games this year. The talent level, size and quickness even at that level is far above the level those 2 were playing at in college this year.
