Yep. My former boss and his wife had a surprise about 10 years post-surgery. Scared the crap out of the other guys in the office who've had it done.

I just haven't been able to go down this road yet. I'm 42 and my wife is 37. I want to wait a few more years just in case we maybe lose one of our kids, we'd probably try to have another one.
I've read there's a slight chance you increase your prostrate cancer risk doing this surgery, but nothing seems to be that well documented or researched. If you do regular prostate exams which your supposed to do as you get older, that should help take care of that issue.
More importantly I think it's better for your wifes health to go off birth control pills. If it really helps increase your wifes sex drive going off the pill, then that's a real bonus that intrigues me. Can anybody else comment on that?
Like I said, when I hit 45 or 46 it will probably be in the cards for me. I don't want to have kids much later than that in my life.

What a baby!! Save money.....get a 5th of Jack, the Black and Decker and do it yourself.
The 5th of jack might cost more. I had mine done at the clinic in Ames and it was considered an office visit so it only cost $15.

Just to throw it out there, it seems like you may be a good candidate for cryogenically freezing your sperm. They commonly do it for men undergoing cancer treatment, but it can be done for anyone. That would enable you to still have kids if desired, but to get all of the benefits of a vasectomy.
The pill has some side effects. It controls your hormones, so it can have all kinds of side effects (including decreased/increased sex drive and moodiness). If your wife smokes, it's not recommended to be on the pill over age 35 due to increased risk of blood clots, etc. Here's a link with some basic info:

Looks like about $500 per year to do that Angie....I think we'll keep doing what we are.
Can't help you with DSM docs but I have some very general advice. I asked my family doc, who no longer does surgery, who he would go to if it were him. He said you just asked the important question. One of my office mates could do it and I'm sure it would go fine, but if it were ME I'd go to a urologist because they see this **** EVERY day.Sorry to resurrect this thread, but anyone have any particular doctors to stay away from for this in the Dsm area? Check with your insurer. Some cover it 100% with no deductible. I guess they figured it's cheaper than paying for you to have a baby.

This guy did mine and everything worked out ok.
