How often has KU committed 24 turnovers? Even more impressive is that we beat KU by 17 and 2 of last year's starters came off the bench for a combined 26 minutes and 12 points.

I was going to school during that magical 99-00 Elite 8 team so I have a pretty high bar for what "great" is at ISU after witnessing that team dominate. That team is still my benchmark for the best team at ISU. This year's team hasn't even hit it's peak yet trying to integrate Wigginton and Lard back into the rotation but I love the chemistry this team has and how unselfish they play. I really love how they get after it on defense too. Haliburton and THT lead the team in steals per game at 2.2 and 1.5 and I just love their instincts to get into passing lanes which is impressive to be that good at it as freshmen.

I think Prohm is proving to be just as good of a hire as Campbell has been for FB and both of these coaches are building programs that will be attractive to recruits and can sustain a winning culture. It's too early in the season to get ahead of ourselves but if this team can find a way to snap the Kansas stranglehold on the regular season conference title Prohm is going to be in demand for any high profile jobs that open up.

Completely agree that this is CSP's program, but you can't deny Fred left him in a good spot. He left him a team of All-Americans and extremely serviceable role players that were hungry. Who knows what things would look like if CSP had taken over the heaping pile of dog **** McDoormat left behind. Don't forget Fred changed the entirety of college basketball and this program may not be where we are today without him.

Fred left the program in an "just OK" spot. Could have left it even better if he hadn't stopped recruiting the last few months he was here

There's some that don't seem to think ISU basketball had much of a history before 2010 so their perspective only involves one coach to compare to.

It's more of a scenario where some vocal fans have an extremely hard time living in the present as a fan with the unknown being the next game. Fred is just the closest known positive entity to latch on to with his history being a known commodity. It's unfortunate because it just creates a further divide and bitterness where any negative aspects to Fred's history have to be amplified in order to stay present and focused on today's team for those that like to stay present and are excited by what comes next even if it's unknown. This is probably the majority, who would have moved on if not for the death grip of those afraid of the future.

It's normal, but unfortunate.

Not heresy at all. That's just a fact for anybody who doesn't have their head shoved up Freddy's ass. To the posters who don't see it, there are plenty of ISU fans who find any little thing possible to criticize Prohm and somehow wind up mentioning Hoiberg in the process. It's ridiculous to anybody with half a brain but they're out there. Some are just a little more subtle than others. I have some Cyclone buddies who constantly ***** about Prohm about the most minuscule stuff. One of them flat out said he hates Prohm and wants Hoiberg back. Talks about it as if it's a legit option. The others haven't come right out and said it but I get the impression they feel the same way. Posters on this board and comments on social media have shown me there are way too many who agree with them. It's weird how obsessed people are with Hoiberg. At this point, there is no legitimate reason to want Prohm gone other than an unhealthy obsession with somebody because he grew up in Ames then played and coached at ISU. It's a great story and Fred brought the magic back but as the op said, this is Prohm's team and we're better off if you ask me.

I've even had a couple people text me, or have seen facebook posts about not liking Prohm, or they're sick of Prohm. It's annoying. But if he keeps winning, of course that'll shut em up.

It doesn’t help that prohm is an extremely humble and honest guy. He consistently gives Fred credit. And he’s right that Fred deserves a lot of credit. But prohm really helped guys like Nader and burton and Monte. And prohm could have thrown Fred and staff under the bus for last year. But he didn’t.

I don't get it either. Maybe if these boards existed there would be a bunch of Johnny vs. Floyd vs. Eustachy debates too. Johnny built ISU into a respectable program with an exciting style and great home court. Floyd came in and had some great seasons and showed what was possible at ISU. Larry took it a step further and showed you could win conference titles here and build FF, NC type teams, and reached unprecedented levels in terms of single season accomplishments. Morgan got some talent, had a good NIT run and won an NCAA tourney game. I blacked out for a few years. Fred came in and rebooted the program. While the peaks of the Larry Era were not reached, he accomplished a level of season-over-season consistency never seen at ISU and again showed a FF-level team could be assembled at ISU. Prohm came in and had success in consecutive seasons that rival some of the better seasons in ISU bball history. He has shown he can recruit well, and here we are. Orr, Floyd, Eustachy, and Hoiberg all had a big hand in making ISU hoops what it is today. However, as has been demonstrated at a place like North Carolina, success is fleeting and the idea that ANY program can go on autopilot and still win with mediocre coaching is ridiculous. Dean Freaking Smith wasn't enough to keep UNC from tanking in a hurry once he stepped down. Each one of these coaches built on what was established, but in college sports, good coaches win, bad coaches lose. It's really that simple. There are no jobs that are good enough to buoy a bad or mediocre coach, and there's no job so difficult that it will keep a good coach down for long. Prohm like Orr, Floyd, Eustachy and Hoiberg won and is winning because he's a good coach. Period.

We've got FB and MBB coaches that look like they are excellent, and want to be AT ISU. It's always a great time to be a Cyclone, but it's never been better. Some people are never going to be "sold on Prohm." That's their choice. In the meantime the rest of us will enjoy a great time in ISU sports.

Assuming there is a tangible difference, it’s due to the difference in the history of our football program vs the history of our basketball program, not following Hoiberg. Back-to-back 8 win seasons with some huge wins is a historical peak for the football program. In basketball, other than McD, every coach in the lifetime of most posters has reached the second round as early as Year 2. The bar is simply higher.

Not everyone was loving the CMC hire until he had unprecedented success despite being handed a poor program. If Prohm reaches the Final Four the love will be overwhelming

Prohm has zero ties to the program and probably knows more about the history of Iowa State Basketball than a lot of people that attend the games. He’s taken time to invest himself in the program. For the haters i would say it is time to invest in him. He started Alumni Weekend, which I think is an awesome event. And if you didn’t appreciate the fight he had to stick up for his guys in Iowa City earlier this year, I don’t know what to tell you. CSP is the EXACT guy I want leading this program into the future. I hope he is here until he retires.
