The Truth (with no dare involved) .........

Recruited for Single Wing football at ISU a long time ago, funny how SPINAL TAPS take out your football playing days. Graduated finally in 1971. Started going to ISU games in mid 50's, hooked ever since.
Knew all the coaches of every sport back then as they all charged gas at the gas station I worked at during ISU days.

That would be Jerry Moses postition. So let's have some fun. Say you go to Iowa State and play football. We don't recruit Jerry Moses because we already have you. Flash forward 25 years and J.J. Moses is a Hawkeye and we don't win the insite.com bowl because you had to be selfish and take Jerry Moses Scholly.

What I am saying is basically your spinal tap has helped us more than you actually know. Unless your son is Reggie Bush. Then I am mad.

Met Shirley Majors many times when he visited his famous son, Johnny Majors.

Knew Frank Spedding, the famous atomic scientist of the Manhattan project.

Made the mistake of taking our wives to the last ISU victory BIG Eight title game in KC and to the first ISU Big 12 title in KC. Now they expect similar results every yr. Wish it were so.

Been to Shreveport and Phoenix for ISU Bowl victories and to Houston for the loss.

Helped celebrate ruining Norm Stewart's birthday in ISU victory in Columbia bus trip.

I love ISU as much as I hate the overbearing Aholes from the east. I am just more vocal about hating the hackeyes. Never seen a good hackeye crawl out of the outhouse pit they originate from.

Go State & don't be late:yes: to the game

WE should run the single wing right now.

Ev Cochrane died several years ago, so there's probably no reason to call him a db (whether he was or not, business wise), and his son, Ev Jr, is to my impression a really nice guy and doesn't deserve to hear his deceased dad trashed.

Nobody said being the son of the former most hated person in Ames is easy. Ev Sr, dug his own grave (no pun intended) the way he was such a db, and calling him that is being extremely kind.

Anyway, grew up in Ames so Truth would take pages...

One summer I played in a pick-up b-ball game at State gym with a lot of the ISU players. I recall being the last man on defense with Tom Shafer barreling down on me. This was my chance to step up and take a charge. Everyone laughed at me when I ran out of the way instead. Later, I had to go to the emergency room to stitches after taking an elbow from Marc Urquart. While there Lafester Rhodes came in to get an injury looked at from the same pick up game. We played some hard core street ball in Ames. :biglaugh:

Love Al Murdoch. I remember the Hockey Club giving blood the first year of it's existence to help defray costs. That team gave blood in more ways than one. Those kids had a lot of kahones.

Go Cyclones.

Speaking of Al Murdoch.... I've met him, he seems like a good guy, that's my claim to fame.

Did you know he is 4 games away from breaking the all time coaching record for college hockey coaches... 924 wins is the record held currently by Ron Mason.

I have not read them all, so sorry if I am repeating a response.....March of 1986 when Jeff Hornacek hit the 40 footer at the buzzer in OT to beat Miami of Ohio at the Metrodome in the first round of the NCAA Tournament........when I moved to Iowa in 1990 it was a no brainer on which team I would follow......go Clones......

Wow. 40 footer! It's funny how that shot (and many others throughout the years) gets deeper and deeper over the years.

Funny thing about that game is that I rushed home from school to tape it. I always taped out the commercials. Well, I got the entire game up until the last commercial break. I paused it, and forgot to unpause it. I was in the doghouse quite awhile for that one when my dad came home to watch it...

Ran against Milan Moses and beat him every time. Got tackled by Travis Furgeson...it hurt because he outweighed me by 80-100 lbs. I am good friends with Austen Arnaud's girlfriend's best friend. Played basketball against Mahoney.

If I've got the game right, I was in Daytona for Spring break. A bunch of us were in a pretty nice seafood restaurant, when someone realized the game was on in the bar. Suddenly there was an invason of a nearly empty bar (not the type that spring-breakers would patronize) by twenty or thirty Cyclones--and none drinking. The regular patrons were all looking around, not knowing what had hit them.

All I can say is, when we finally made it back to the table, oysters are NOT good cold.

OK I never had any official link to the team but a friend in college was in intern for the Athletic department's video coordinator. I helped him on game day hauling camera equipment to the top of the scoreboard and watched the Cyclones loose 21-24 to Texas S&M. It was a great game and the experience was awesome. Stood right on top of the loudspeakers the entire game.

Other then that I have been a dedicated fan since I started at ISU in '91.

Went to the Johnny Orr BB camp in HS and my 3on3 team got second place in the 3on3 tournament. It was make it take it to 11 as I recall. As we went up 6-0 on a jumper by me Johnny said "Whooee these guys are hot, man"...we didn't score another basket and lost 11-6.

My son's HS BB coach played against ISU in Hilton and was guarded by Kenny Pratt. Pratt kept telling him that he was going to "kill him" and he apparently left my son's coach with the impression that he just might do it after the game.

While in school I attended many of the Cyclone Club summer outings all over the state and got to go to most of the MBB and FB games for free during my 4.5 years.

Johnny Orr donated some money to a charity at my request. He also allowed me access to the MBB locker room and coaches for a project I did while in school.

Got to know Dave Cox and Max Urick very well...both are great guys. In fact, I met Jim Walden the day he interviewed for the ISU job as I was leaving a meeting with Dave Cox.

Had JLMC 312 with Lafester...he actually came a few times.

My wife dated a hawkeye QB and an ISU BB player before I swept her off her feet.

I worked for FP&M... so got to do some work in the press box once or twice... we took our break on the roof

Also got to inform coach Chizik that we were about to be setting off the fire alarm to test the system at 7:30 in the morning...

I grew up in Ames. Both parents graduated from there, mom was a ball girl for the baseball team (a Diamond Darling), and dad played rugby. Mom also worked for the University for some time and was also once Story County Cyclone Club President. Also grew up with some of the coaches sons at that time and got to go down on the field for games then and again. Went to ISU too and dated a member of the track team. My fraternity (thread derailer) volunteered at track meets. Knew a bunch of players from all teams when there, etc. etc. etc. It seems to me that everyone can involve themselves greatly with the athletics program while there if they want to.

Dad, grandpa, aunt all went to ISU. Raised ISU.

First real memory was a football game against KSU (1993???), we won but all i really remember is a streaker and got arrested without covering him up at all and it was cold. We went to 3 games that year and they won all 3.

I was always that kid in elementary and high school that was a cyclone. Everyone else seemed to be hawk, which makes me love ISU even more.

Have a distant cousin I've met once on the Bball team now and a former cousin/bball player.

Lived on the same floor freshman year with a walk on guy who is on special teams wall for punting only. Never thought I would be excited about a special teams play.

Body painted and traveled many a times with Superfan and Flagguy.

Last but not least, my roomates, mom's car was stolen in high school by Arnaud.

Is that too much? nothing really interesting.

got dunked on in State Gym by stevie johnson in intramurals a few weeks after he ended his football days.

helped carry a keg in from a car in which troy davis was riding my freshman year.

can write my name in cursive ... can't spell cursive.

EDIT: After consulting google, I apparently CAN spell cursive

Also got to inform coach Chizik that we were about to be setting off the fire alarm to test the system at 7:30 in the morning...

While that had to be intimidating to tell him that, I hope he was accomodating.

The real question is did the fire alarm wake up any coaches who had stayed there the night before?
