The Truth (with no dare involved) .........

I am very new to the board, and perhaps this violates some rule or something but I really want to get to know poster's just a little better. There are some funny, smart, passionate people out there, and after reading TheCity's thread AGAIN, maybe this would give our football recruiting coordinator Aclone a chance to say he talks to potential recruits!!!!!!! Just kidding Aclone.
Would everyone be willing to state ONE FACT about themselves which relates to Cyclone Athletics, whether it is the football team, basketball teams, soccer, wrestling, etc? Maybe everyone knows other peoples connections to ISU Athletics and maybe this is a bad idea, but I would kinda like to know where some people are coming from and what their connection to the university may or may not be. I don't expect people to say I am the starting right guard, or I am City's brother; nothing that would specifically give away an identity, just what is one of your links to Cyclone sports.Yes? No?

Once upon a time, I was a spotter for Frank Snyder and Ev Cochrane in the press box, many, many many, years ago.
John Miller, you do not have to play, and thank you Aclone for being an example.

Go Cyclones.
I am trying to respond to a couple of private messages and I hope you have received a response. I can't quite be sure if I am sending them back (or forwarding) in the proper manner. If you havn't received them, I apologize, I'm not being a jerk, I'm just a computer illiterate. Thanks. I'll figure it out.

I am sorry. I am going to hate saying this but I am not familiar with the game or its outcome.

Just a guess, but that might be the come from behind game where the floor was shaking and the OSU guard (Alexander?) missed two straight free throws even though he was an 80%+ shooter. Or something like that:wink:

Personally, I have just been a die hard fan since the early 80's. Saw ISU beat Kansas the year they won it all. Saw TD run for 378 against Mizzou. Saw Seneca do "the run" against TT, though from the far NW grass.

This is a really great thread.

Current student and father went to ISU. We didn't get to see hardly any games on TV in eastern Iowa, but my parents took me to games quite a bit. I was at the snow game against Colorado like 15 years ago, or whatever it was. I don't really remember it, but I'm told that I had a hell of a time walking up the ramp in Jack Trice in my snow pants. The wind got the best of me.

I never saw an ISU football game on television (living in Cedar Rapids) before the 90's. It was really tough to see the team without being at the stadium.

I took ID's at a bar in Ames and denied access to Jamaal Tinsley because he had no ID on him. The cops were currently 5 feet away talking to a stupid beotch and a bunch of stings were going on in Campustown bars. I did let him bring in Brandon Hawkins in under age many times though. The next night i saw him and talked to him about it, and he said and I quote " I Ain't mad at'cha dog".
I did let Marcus Fizer in the back door to go get his girlfriend once though.

I beat Paul Shirley in Pool at the same bar. Guess for an engineer, he needed more geometry class to help out with all the angles on those shots.

I don't remember much of the 90's (was too young for most of it) but it has been pretty hard to see much of anything ISU in the CR market until the last 8-10 years

Transfered in my junior year and played baseball in 2000 and 2001. Got the last win ever at Cap Timm against #1 Nebraska and pitched the final out in the Big XII Tournament...

Played against Brett Meyer in a high school playoff game. We lost because Atlantic went for 2, he did a qb sneak, and scored.

Saw the 378 too and to this day I think that Troy should have won the Heisman (sp?) I can't help but think that a couple of more wins and that might have done it!

A lot more wins and mastery of the english language would certainly have gone a long way to help his cause but might still have been for naught...this is iowa state after all.

Just a fan and alumn. A couple highlights:
1) as a kid slapping Dwayne Crutchfield's shoulder pads after an ISU victory.
2) also, as a kid, watching ISU beat WI in wrestling at Madison and walking across the mat with my dad to shake Coach Gibbon's hand after one of his first victories.

I once wrestled Harold Nichols to the floor while he was in his underwear and a robe.

I dated a cheerleader for FB & Men's BBall while attending ISU.

I attended Johnny Orr's BBall camp as a kid and Victor Alexander was also there. Big Vic visited the dorm room I was staying in for the camp and stole my pizza one night.

A stripper at BJ's Lucky Lady that dated Kelvin Cato took a fancy to me one night.

I went fishing with Pete Taylor.

I once extended my hand to Hayden Fry and when he reached for it I pulled it back and made him whiff (I know....nothing to do with ISU, but a good story none the less).

And yes....it is all true.

I want to hear more about the match with Harold Nichols.

That is what I'm talking about!!!!!!! I WANT THE TEAM BACK, but I'm sure not as badly as you do. Congrats on your pitching. I can't hit the broad side of a barn, much less an open window.

GO CYCLONES

I got hit by a golf ball from Pete Taylor and saw Larry E. smashed back when we had golf outings. ( I really miss those golf outings ) I think I will live my life vicariously thru ISUno1fan cheerleaders and strippers-sweet!

Were you taking ID's when Chris Taylor was a bouncer in Ames?
Have you read Paul's book? Did he have a chapter where he spoke about the night you beat him at pool? :biglaugh:
I need to get that book.

I work in the athletic department, and have the joy of watching football everyday... (NO Im not Wayne Bolt )

Born a Cyclone
One of 1st fb games attended was 1972 ISU vs. KNu tie. Can't remember much as I was only 6.
BSME 89.

If I remember correctly, THEY tied US and I was standing in the end zone and someone correct me if I am wrong but I think Otto Stowe caught a touchdown pass to go ahead.

Go Cyclones.
